Near East University Near East Institute gave a seminar to Security Forces Command on Syria

- The chaos in Syria is threatening the region!
- Near East University Near East Institute gave a seminar to the Security Forces Command on the recent developments in Syria and relative threats to the region in general, and possible threats to Turkey and Cyprus.

It was revealed that Near East University Near East Institute gave a seminar to members of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Security Armed Forces themed as “Syria: Chaos or solution”. Near East Institute Consultancy member, security and terror specialist Ercan Çitlioğlu provided information regarding the civil war in Syria, changing equilibriums in the region, possible effects on Turkey and on TRNC. It was pointed out the the seminar was held at the Security Forces Command headquarters and that Major General Erhan Uzun and TRNC Police Director General Süleyman Manavoğlu, and other Senior Commanders had attended the seminar.

Ercan Çitlioğlu: The civil war in Syria is a threat to all the countries in that region!

At the seminar which was held at the headquarters of TRNC Security Forces Command, Near East Institute consultancy member, Ercan Çitlioğlu, started his speech with a general evaluation of the current situation in Syria and added that as it is a threat to the Middle East and to the world in general, the civil war in Syria was a true threat to Turkey and to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Ercan Çitlioğlu then took the scenarios involving possibilities which include using armed forces in Syria, possible energy battles and Syria crises in general in relation to possible scenarios in the region. Çitlioğlu ended his speech by focusing particularly likelihood of security threats towards Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Making a short evaluation of the seminar, Head of Near East Institute Assoc. Prof. Dr. Umut Koldaş, expressed that they were highly proud to be a part of an event which involves significant parties of the country; such as the Security Force Command and the general police directorate. Furthermore, Koldaş added the fact that Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Security Force Command showed such sensitivity in an issue which highly influences the security of the country also indicated the significance of the security policies of the country to be developed which in return involves national, international and regional security.

It was revealed that subsequent to the seminar which was themed as “Syria: Chaos or Solution”, TRNC Security Forces Major General Erhan Uzun thanked the Near East University- Near East Institute for organising such a significant event and presented a plaque to Near East Institute Consultancy Member Ercan Çitlioğlu in memory of the day.
