The “Artificial Intelligence Literacy” in-service training program, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and Near East University, has concluded. A total of 947 teachers serving in public schools under the Primary Education Department, General Secondary Education Department, and Vocational and Technical Education Department received hands-on training at Near East University on the effective and informed use of artificial intelligence technologies in educational processes.

As the areas of application for artificial intelligence technologies in education expand rapidly, it is becoming increasingly important for teachers to familiarize themselves with these technologies, select the right tools, and integrate them into educational processes in a purposeful manner. Ranked among the world’s top 500 universities, Near East University continues its efforts to share its academic expertise in the field of artificial intelligence with the community. In this context, the “Artificial Intelligence Literacy” in-service training program, which was conducted in collaboration with Near East University and the Ministry of National Education’s Department of Common Educational Services, was completed between September 1 and 9 with the participation of 947 teachers.

Teachers from various disciplines, serving in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education’s Primary Education Department, General Secondary Education Department, and Vocational and Technical Education Department, participated in the training sessions held at the Near East University campus.

As part of the program, teachers received both theoretical and practical training on topics such as the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence, its applications in education, the integration of various AI tools into lesson processes, content development, and lesson preparation.

947 teachers gained hands-on experience with artificial intelligence tools

he “Artificial Intelligence Literacy” training sessions were conducted by Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bicen and Prof. Dr. Sezer Kanbul from the Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education; Prof. Dr. Boran Şekeroğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet İlhan from the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics; and Aziz Gürpınar, Halil Erdim, and Güvenç Yüksel from the Occupational Health and Safety Department of the Vocational School of Health Services. Additionally, Hüseyin Aşkaroğlu, a faculty member from the Near East University Faculty of Communication, provided training on “Graphic Design and Artificial Intelligence” for vocational high school teachers.

During the training sessions, which combined theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice, teachers had the opportunity to directly experience various artificial intelligence tools. Practical exercises covered how to utilize artificial intelligence in lesson planning and preparation, how to develop educational materials, and how to generate content tailored to diverse teaching needs. The aim was not only for teachers to familiarize themselves with AI tools but also to acquire the practical skills necessary to apply these tools within their specific disciplines and educational contexts.

Near East University’s expertise in artificial intelligence is being integrated into education

Ranked among the world’s top 500 universities, Near East University positions artificial intelligence as a core component of its education, scientific research, and technology production activities. Through the education and research conducted under its Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics, the university contributes to cultivating a skilled workforce in this field while simultaneously promoting the application of artificial intelligence across various disciplines through its projects.

One of Near East University’s pioneering initiatives in this area is “Prof. AI. DUX”, an AI-based academic instructor. Representing an innovative example of integrating artificial intelligence into higher education’s teaching and academic production processes, Prof. AI. DUX stands as a key component of the university’s approach—one that views artificial intelligence not merely as a field of technology, but as a tool capable of transforming educational models.

Through the “Artificial Intelligence Literacy” program conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Near East University’s academic and technological expertise in the field of AI was shared with teachers serving in primary, secondary, vocational, and technical educational institutions.

Bringing the AI experience into the classroom

The program, attended by 947 teachers from various disciplines, aims to transfer the knowledge and practical experience gained in artificial intelligence into classrooms through these educators. The skills acquired during the training are intended to offer teachers new opportunities in areas such as lesson planning, developing original educational materials, diversifying instructional processes, and creating content tailored to students’ diverse learning needs.

Completed through the collaboration between Near East University and the Ministry of National Education, the program represents a significant step toward the conscious and purposeful integration of AI technologies into the education system. Furthermore, by providing AI literacy training to teachers, it evolved into a large-scale professional development initiative.
