Near East University Crowns Its Place in the Top 500 Rankings

Near East University, which is among the top 500 universities in the world in the overall ranking, also ranked among the “top 500 universities” in 6 fields in the Times Higher Education 2026 Field Rankings. Near East University stands out as the foundation university with the most fields on the list among Turkish universities with a total of 8 fields on the list.

Near East University, ranked among the top 500 universities in the world by Times Higher Education (THE), a London-based organization and one of the world’s most prestigious higher education ranking institutions, has solidified its strong position with the “2026 Subject Rankings.” Near East University ranked among the best in the world in eight subjects and among the top 500 universities in six subjects. With this result, Near East University stands out as the university with the most subjects ranked in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and as the foundation university with the most subjects ranked among Turkish universities.

These results in the subject rankings once again demonstrate that Near East University’s overall success is based on a sustainable and balanced academic performance spanning different disciplines.

According to the 2026 World University Subject Rankings results, Near East University is among the top 200 universities in the world in the field of “Physical Sciences” and among the top 300 universities in the world in the field of “Engineering.” Near East University has also become one of the top 400 universities in the world in the fields of “Business and Economics”, “Computer Science” and “Educational Sciences”. Along with its ranking in the “Social Sciences” field (401-500 band), Near East University is listed among the “top 500 universities in the world” in 6 fields. Near East University also ranks in the 601-800 band in the fields of “Medicine and Health” and “Life Sciences”.

At the Top Among Turkish Universities!

Near East University has achieved remarkable success not only on a global scale but also among Turkish universities in the Times Higher Education 2026 Subject Rankings. Ranked first among Turkish universities in the field of “Physical Sciences”; second in “Life Sciences”; third in “Computer Science”, “Engineering” and “Medicine and Health”; fourth in “Educational Sciences”; fifth in “Business and Economics”; and ranked sixth in “Social Sciences”.

Commenting on the success achieved in the Times Higher Education 2026 Subject Rankings, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, emphasized that as a university ranked in the top 500 in the overall ranking, they also achieved a strong result in the subject rankings. Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “The fact that our university is listed in eight subjects in the 2026 Subject Rankings and is again shown within the top 500 in six of them. This is an important indicator that we are exhibiting a sustainable and balanced academic performance spread across different disciplines.” Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel emphasized that it is a source of pride that Near East University is the university with the most subjects ranked in the TRNC and the foundation university with the most subjects ranked among Turkish universities, and congratulated all the academics who contributed to this success.

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ also commented on the Times Higher Education rankings. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ stated that the 2026 field rankings announced by Times Higher Education clearly demonstrate the results of research-oriented development strategies. He said, “The fact that our overall ranking within the top 500 is strengthened by our inclusion in the top 500 in 6 different disciplines shows that our university’s scientific productivity is steadily increasing. These results, achieved across a wide range of fields from physics to engineering, computer science to education, are a reflection of our research centers, international collaborations, and the systematic support we provide for high-quality academic work.”
