62 medical students from 28 countries, ranging from Germany to Brazil, France to Indonesia, and Spain to Jordan, will conduct clinical training and research studies at Near East University, ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, throughout the summer as part of the IFMSA and Erasmus+ Exchange Programs. The first group arrived in Northern Cyprus in July and began their studies. The number of international medical students hosted under the program will reach 62 with the students arriving in August.
Near East University, ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, continues to prepare future physicians for the changing needs of the global healthcare sector with its high-standard clinical training opportunities, scientific research opportunities, and intercultural interaction environment. Within this framework, medical students coming from 26 different countries are receiving education at Near East University through an organization coordinated by the Medical Students Association of Northern Cyprus(MSANC) and organized under the Clinical (SCOPE) and Research (SCORE) Exchange Programs of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA).
As part of the July program, a total of 27 international medical students, 24 of whom are clinical exchange students and 4 research exchange students, began their education. With the 27 clinical exchange students and 7 research exchange students arriving in August, a total of 62 international medical students will spend the summer studying at Near East University. Under this program, medical students from Germany, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Czech Republic, Indonesia, Estonia, Palestine, France, Croatia, Iraq, Spain, North Macedonia, Lebanon, Hungary, Egypt, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, Oman, and Jordan are participating in clinical training and research studies at Near East University.
Within the scope of the program, students participate in clinical rotations in different branches at Near East University Hospital, while those included in the research program have the opportunity to improve their professional experience by working on scientific projects conducted under the supervision of academics.
International students give Near East University top marks!
nternational medical students studying at Near East University within the scope of the IFMSA Exchange Program expressed their satisfaction with the modern hospital infrastructure, strong academic staff, high-quality clinical training opportunities, and the cultural experiences they gained in Northern Cyprus. Alexa Victor, a student from Victor Babesh University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara in Romania, stated that she participated in a project on Lyme disease within the scope of the research exchange program, saying, “The doctors here helped me a lot in understanding the field better. I had the opportunity to examine cases that are so rare that I wouldn’t see them in my own country. The hospital is very modern and well-organized. I also loved the people, the climate, and the beaches of Northern Cyprus.”
Hugo Honz, a student at Comenius University in Slovakia, stated that he chose Near East University based on the recommendations of friends who had previously participated in the program, adding that the doctors always showed a supportive and explanatory approach towards the students. Honz also expressed his admiration for the sea and beaches of Northern Cyprus. Ekaterina Sipukhina, a student at Samara State Medical University in Russia, said she was impressed by the modern infrastructure and equipment of Near East University Hospital, adding that the doctors patiently answered all her questions and that the internship significantly contributed to her professional development.
Sena Erikli, a student from Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University in Türkiye, stated that the patient-doctor communication she observed at Near East University Hospital was the most impressive aspect for her, adding that the time allocated to patients significantly contributed to both the quality of treatment and the educational process. She also said that meeting students from different countries was one of the most valuable gains of the program. Alia Ibrahim, a student from Al-Balqa Applied University in Jordan, stated that she chose Near East University on the recommendation of her friends, expressing her admiration for the size of the campus, the social facilities it offers, and the modern infrastructure of the university hospital. “I am truly enjoying studying here. The university campus is very beautiful and quite large. It has everything a student might need.”, she said.
Leen Dibs, a student from Hebron University in Palestine, stated that she was impressed by the university’s strong healthcare team, modern infrastructure, and well-organized study environment, adding that the hospitable people, culture, and natural beauty of Northern Cyprus also left a positive impression on her. Jukl Karem, a student from Hawler Medical University in Iraq, said that she had the opportunity to observe different clinical cases.
