Near East University Science Awards to be Given for the 10th Time!

Near East University, ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, will give its traditional “Science Awards” for the 10th time on July 8th, with an updated methodology and expanded categories. The ceremony will also announce the fifth recipient of the “Dr. Suat Günsel Honorary Award Gold Medal”, a once-in-a-lifetime award honoring individuals who have made outstanding contributions to science.

The “Science Awards”, a tradition of Near East University, which ranks among the top 500 universities in the world and is the 39th most influential university globally, will be presented at a ceremony on Wednesday, July 8th, at 5:00 PM at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Hall.

The ceremony, which will bring together scientists, researchers, and stakeholders from the academic world, will award scientific achievements in eight main categories this year, in line with the renewed methodology. The expanded categories, including “Quality Publication Award”, “Early Career Achievement Award”, “Productivity Achievement Award”, “Citation Achievement Award”, “Doctoral Thesis Supervisor Achievement Award”, “Interdisciplinary Publication Awards”, “Sustainability Awards”, and “Excellence in Education Award”, will highlight different dimensions of academic production. Thus, along with scientific publication and research performance, interdisciplinary collaborations, quality in education, doctoral supervision, and contributions to sustainable development will also be rewarded.

The award ceremony, which has become a symbol of Near East University’s commitment to scientific production, will host an important gathering celebrating scientific achievements. The program will continue with a reception at the Cyprus Car Museum at 7:00 PM.

The New Recipient of the Dr. Suat Günsel Honorary Award Gold Medal Will Be Announced!

The ceremony will also see the fifth annual “Dr. Suat Günsel Honorary Award Gold Medal”, an award that can only be granted once in a lifetime and honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to science. This prestigious award, which can only be won once in a lifetime, is given to honor scientists who have made an international mark with their scientific work, made lasting contributions to humanity’s shared knowledge, and served as an inspiration in the scientific world. Named after Dr. Suat Günsel, the Founding Rector of Near East University, recipients of this award also serve as ex officio members of the advisory board of the Near East Enterprises’ Board of Trustees.

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ stated that the updated methodology of the Science Awards evaluates academic performance from a much more holistic perspective, saying, “Scientific success is not measured solely by the number of publications. Research, citations received, interdisciplinary collaborations, high-quality doctoral education, excellence in education, and sustainability are also of great importance. With this understanding, our renewed award system will be an important source of motivation to further advance the strong research culture that has developed at our university.”
