Hosted by Near East University, the “1st Nicosia Children’s Theatre Festival” kicked off with “The Land of Voices,” staged by Istanbul City Theatres. The festival, which welcomed hundreds of students on its first day, will feature five plays until April 16th.
Near East University, ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, is hosting a colorful festival designed to spark children’s imaginations. The “Nicosia Children’s Theatre Festival,” held for the first time this year, opened at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center. Organized by the Nicosia Municipality Theatre, the festival will continue to introduce young audiences to the magical world of theatre.
The festival opened with “The Land of Voices,” staged by Istanbul City Theatres. Performed in two sessions, morning and afternoon, the play was greatly appreciated by children, taking them on an imaginative journey with its colorful stage design and impressive storytelling. The joy and interest shown by the children filling the hall demonstrated from the very first day that the festival had achieved its purpose.
Istanbul City Theatres, Manisa City Theatre, and Trabzon State Theatre are participating in the festival with the most favoured children’s plays, while the Turkish Cypriot State Theatres and the Nicosia Municipality Theatre are also staging new children’s plays for the first time.
Fairy tales and stories continue to meet on stage until April 16th…
The festival will continue with a full program in the coming days. On April 7th, the Turkish Cypriot State Theatres will present the play “Dream”, while on April 9th, the Manisa City Theatre’s most favoured production “Puss in Boots” will provide enjoyable moments for young audiences. Following the Nicosia Municipality Theatre’s performance of “No No No” on April 14th, the festival will conclude on April 16th with the Trabzon State Theatre’s “Alice in Wonderland.”
The Nicosia Children’s Theatre Festival, where new plays from the Cyprus Turkish State Theatres and the Nicosia Municipality Theatre also premiere for the audience, brings together strong troupes from the TRNC and Turkey on the same stage, adding a new dynamism to Nicosia’s cultural and artistic life.
