Near East University, ranked among the world’s top 500 universities, is filling its stage with comedy and surprises on World Theatre Day, March 27th. “The Wonderful Wedding” will give audiences an evening filled with wedding chaos, misunderstandings, and plenty of laughter.
Near East University, where knowledge and art meet, continues to offer its students opportunities to experience culture and art alongside its academic achievements. In this context, on World Theatre Day, it is giving its stage over to the power of humor and the creativity of young theatre artists. The play “The Wonderful Wedding,” a collaboration between the Near East University Office of Students’ Dean and the Theatre Club, will be performed on Wednesday, March 25th, 2026 at 7:00 PM in the Grand Hall of the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center.
This free performance is a hilarious comedy that questions whether the person you choose to marry is the “right person.” The play, filled with surprises, misunderstandings, and unexpected events, offers the audience both entertaining and thought-provoking moments. Wedding preparations, family pressure, and the complexities of love come to life on stage through the universal language of humor.
Directed by Ali Birsen, the play features Taha Erkbey Özkan as assistant director, Lorin Akgül as stage assistant, Yusuf Efe Coşkun as sound and lighting designer, and Yağmur Atalay as set designer. Brought to life by the stage energy of young actors, “The Wonderful Wedding” promises an unmissable evening for both students and theater and humor enthusiasts.

Referring to the Theater Club’s activities, Prof. Dr. Yavuz noted that the club’s aim is to bring young people’s social awareness and talents to the stage, adding, “The connection established with the audience doubles the sincerity and energy of the performance.
