The “Digital Government, E-Government Portal and the Future of Public Services” conference, held at Near East University, addressed the impact of digital transformation on public administration.
Near East University, ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, added another project to its work with institutions and organizations in the country, leveraging its scientific expertise and academic studies. In this context, the conference, held at Near East University Hospital in collaboration with the Prime Ministry’s Digital Transformation and Electronic Government Agency, the Near East University Digital Education and Information Unit, and the Social Research and Development Center, examined the effects of digital transformation on public administration from an academic perspective.
The conference, featuring a presentation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğberk Kaya from the Prime Ministry’s Digital Transformation and Electronic Government Agency titled “Digital Government, E-Government Portal and the Future of Public Services,” provided the participants with the opportunity to strengthen the sharing of knowledge and experience on digital transformation, e-government applications, and digital citizenship. In addition to the concepts of digitalization, digital transformation, and e-participation, the e-government applications of the TRNC, the conveniences provided by digital government to citizens, and its bureaucracy-reducing effects were discussed in detail.
At the highly attended conference, participants learned about the advantages offered by digital government and existing projects; topics such as digital citizenship, corporate memory management, and public-university collaborations were also addressed. The presentation also included suggestions on digital detox and the healthy use of technology, emphasizing the need for society to be ready for digital transformation. The event, which was followed with great interest by the participants, offered a perspective on how the efficiency and transparency of public services can be increased through data-driven management and the unique use of technology.

In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğberk Kaya emphasized that digitalization is not only a technological innovation but also a radical transformation in public administration, stating that the digital government concept strengthens citizen-oriented service delivery. He noted that the digital transformation process significantly contributes to making public services faster, more transparent, and more accessible. Kaya stated that platforms similar to the e-Government Portal enable citizens to access many public services from a single point. Touching upon the concepts of digital citizenship and e-participation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaya noted that individuals can participate more actively in decision-making processes through digital tools. Referring to e-government applications implemented in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaya emphasized that a data-driven management approach contributes to the more efficient operation of public institutions. Highlighting the importance of conscious technology use, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaya stated that strengthening digital literacy and using technology in a balanced way are crucial for society to adapt to digital transformation.
