The Step Towards Strengthening the Culture of Cooperation in Higher Education

Near East University, following its agreements with Kyrenia University, Lefke European University, Cyprus International University, and Eastern Mediterranean University, has also signed an academic cooperation protocol with Kyrenia American University.

Near East University, ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, signed a cooperation protocol with Kyrenia American University to implement joint projects in academic and research fields. Near East University had recently signed academic cooperation protocols with Kyrenia University, Lefke European University, Cyprus International University, and Eastern Mediterranean University.

The protocol came into effect with the signatures of Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Kyrenia American University Rector Prof. Dr. Serdar Yurtsever. The ceremony was attended by Near East University’s Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt, Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan, Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy, and General Secretary Prof. Dr. Yeter Tabur, while Kyrenia American University was represented by Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Poyraz Ali Gürson and Prof. Dr. Oya Ertuğruloğlu, Rector’s Advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Celal Sakka, General Secretary Aylin Ayhan, and Head of Corporate Communications Simge Erdal were also present.

The protocol includes a wide range of cooperation, from academic staff and student exchange to joint research projects, conferences, seminars, and workshops. Within this framework, the sharing of knowledge and experience between faculty members and researchers will be encouraged, while students will have the opportunity to experience various campus cultures and support their personal development. Furthermore, joint projects will increase the educational and research capacity of both universities, while allowing students to experience various campus cultures and support their personal growth. Thus, this cooperation protocol will give a new impetus to scientific production and innovative educational practices.

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ in his speech at the signing ceremony, emphasized the importance of academic collaborations between universities, stating, “Such collaborations provide a great opportunity to strengthen scientific production and enable our students to gain interdisciplinary experience.”

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ emphasized that despite all the challenges, universities in the TRNC have achieved significant results in global rankings prepared by many higher education organizations such as Times Higher Education, QS, URAP, and GreenMetric. He added, “The fact that Near East University is listed among the top 500 universities in the world by Times Higher Education demonstrates our university’s strong performance in education and research and its capacity for scientific production.”

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ emphasized that the developing culture of cooperation between universities in the country is extremely important in terms of strengthening the power and potential of the higher education system. Şanlıdağ said, “The sharing of knowledge, experience, and academic expertise between our universities contributes to increased scientific output and allows our students to receive education in a richer academic environment. Thus, we view every cooperation protocol we sign as a strategic step that accelerates the joint development of higher education in the TRNC.”

Prof. Dr. Serdar Yurtsever: “We aim to make valuable contributions to higher education in the TRNC through joint projects and academic interactions.”

Emphasizing the importance of the cooperation protocol, Kyrenia American University Rector Prof. Dr. Serdar Yurtsever said, “As Kyrenia American University, we are very happy to be in such a comprehensive academic cooperation with Near East University. In fact, cooperation between the two universities had already begun. Now we are solidifying it by formalizing it into a protocol.”

Prof. Dr. Yurtsever added, “We believe that this protocol will strengthen the academic, administrative, and student relations of both universities. We aim to make important contributions to higher education in the TRNC through joint projects and academic interactions.” Yurtsever expressed his hope that the cooperation protocol they signed would be beneficial to both institutions and the higher education community.
