The TRNC Gymnastics Federation’s coaching seminar, hosted by Near East University, has concluded.

The coaching seminar carried out by the TRNC Gymnastics Federation and hosted by Near East University was successfully completed with a two-day program. The aim was to improve participants’ knowledge and skills in line with current approaches through practical and theoretical training.
The “January 2026 Gymnastics Coaching Seminar Program,” organized by the TRNC Gymnastics Federation, was successfully held at Near East University. The two-day event contributed to the professional development of coaches, while the sporting achievements throughout the year were celebrated throughout a Platinum Award Ceremony.

At the Gymnastics Coaching Seminar held at the Dorana Hotel Nicosia, expert academics and instructors provided training on current training approaches, leadership skills, and practical applications.

The training program, which was carried out with high participation, was supported by practical exercises and interactive workshops in addition to theoretical lectures.

From leadership coaching to practical training…
On the first day of the seminar; Assistant Professor Dr. Osman Emiroğlu, a faculty member at the Near East University Faculty of Sports Sciences, gave a presentation titled “Leading Coaching in the Modern World,” while Dr. Hüseyin Güneralp, Deputy Head of the Coaching Education Department at the Near East University Faculty of Sports Sciences, made a presentation on “Training Knowledge Specifically for Gymnastics”, shedding light on the current dynamics of coaching. The presentations addressed the athlete-coach relationship, performance management, and contemporary training planning. Following these presentations, third-level senior coaches Berk Aydoğan and Ayten Kasap Topal provided comprehensive training on technical development and application.

The second day of the seminar began with a morning exercise session around the lake on the Near East University campus. Following the exercise, Orçun Kamalı, President of the TRNC National Olympic Committee, shared information on the Olympic structure, sports policies, and the role of coaches within this structure in his presentation titled “The Presentation of TRNC National Olympic Committee”. Following this presentation, a lecture by third-level senior coach Mustafa Erbulut focused on application-based training methods and field experiences. The seminar concluded with a workshop conducted by Assist. Prof. Dr. Osman Emiroğlu and Dr. Ebru Doğan Karakoç, faculty members of the Near East University Faculty of Sports Sciences. With the workshop, which reinforced theoretical knowledge with practical exercises, the seminar program was completed.

Expressing that realizing such a comprehensive organization held special significance for them, Hasan Sapsızoğlu, President of the TRNC Gymnastics Federation, said, “We have been holding our seminars online for a long time. Today, with the great support of Near East University, we had a fulfilling weekend, combining both our seminar and our awards ceremony.”

Sapsızoğlu emphasized that the main aim of the seminars was to further advance the professional level of coaches, and stated that the changing training methods, pedagogical and psychological innovations in line with developing technology were at the center of the seminar program. Sapsızoğlu stated that there are currently 251 coaches within the federation, adding, “We aim to realize our project of 10,000 children by increasing the knowledge and motivation of our coaches.”

Emphasizing the invaluable infrastructure support provided by Near East University to the federations, Sapsızoğlu said, “The Near East Family opening up all its resources to us has lifted a huge burden from the federations.” Emphasizing the importance of contributions of Near East University Hospital being the official health sponsor of the federations, Hasan Sapsızoğlu said, “Providing equal and comprehensive health services to all our children is very important. I do appreciate the Near East Family for this sensitivity.”
