Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer, Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Near East University, which ranks among the top 500 universities in the world, has produced another comprehensive work shedding light on the medicinal and aromatic properties of plants with his new book titled “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants.”

Inspiring young academics with his productivity
Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer, stating his belief that understanding and accurately conveying the healing power of nature through scientific methods will play a critical role in future approaches to healthcare, signed his new book and presented it to Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises, and Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Rector of Near East University.
Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel expressed his great pleasure and pride in having such an esteemed scientist, who has shaped the world literature in his field with his scientific output, under the roof of Near East University. Who is Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer?
Known in the international scientific community for his studies in pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, botany, and ethnopharmacology, Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer continues to share his academic knowledge with his students at the Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy. Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Başer has published over a thousand articles, over sixty books, and 142 conference papers. Prof. Dr. Başer has supervised 19 master’s theses and 10 doctoral dissertations.
In 2016, Prof. Dr. Başer won the ABC James A. Duke Excellence Award for his study titled “Handbook of Essential Oils.” He has also received prestigious awards such as the TÜBİTAK Science Award, the IFEAT Distinguished Service Medal, and the Turkish Pharmacists Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Prof. Dr. Başer was awarded the prestigious “Theophrastus Award” by OPTIMA for his international contributions to the scientific classification of plants. He makes significant contributions to the conservation of the Mediterranean flora and the development of sustainable nature conservation strategies. Prof. Dr. Başer’s study was further crowned by the naming of a new endemic anise species discovered in Turkey as “Pimpinella husnucan-baseri.” Standing out as an inspirational figure to young scientists, Prof. Dr. Başer makes important contributions to the academic world and nature conservation efforts by carrying out studies on medicinal and aromatic plants from a scientific perspective.
