Following the national break, Turkish Women’s Basketball Super League started with the 6th week matches. The most important game this week was played on Saturday between two undefeated team Near East University and Fenerbahçe. Facing Fenerbahçe at Caferağa Sports Saloon, Near East University lost this important game 65-78. Thus, Near East University tasted its first defeat in the league this season.

After 5 match winning streak and under the helm of Coach Zafer Kalaycıoğlu, Near East University started the game with Kayla MacBride, Courtney Vandersloot, Quanitra Hollingsworth, Jantel Lavender and Olcay Çakır. The periods were completed as follows: 19-14, 38-36, 42-52 and 65-78.

Near East University started the first period with a high tempo to grasp and get the game. Being effective in zone defense and rebounds, Near East University led the game and won this period 19-14.

The second period was the scene of many turnovers. Both teams exhibited high performance to dominate the game. As in the first period, Near East University scored 19 points while Fenerbahçe scored 22 points this period. Near East University was the winner of the first half by 38-36.

Despite starting the third period with Vandersloot’s two-point shot (40-36), Near East University experienced many turnovers and exhibited deficiencies in zone defenses. Near East University could score 12 points while Fenerbahçe scored 25 points in this period. Dominating the game, Fenerbahçe won this period 50-61.

In the final period, Near East University’s players tried hard to grasp the game. However, Fenerbahçe kept fighting tough and gave no way to Near East University. Fenerbahçe won this challenging game by a net score 65-78.
