Organized by Near East University, ‘100 Reasons to Produce Science’ conference series aims to ensure quality and innovative knowledge production through scientific methods. Within this scope, Conference Series continues to provide platform for worldwide renowned scholars, scientists to present their studies and share their experiences to pave the way for new breakthroughs. In the line with its fundamental goal, the Conference Series is scheduled to host top 100 Turkish Scientists who have made a sound across the globe with their scientific studies and accomplishments.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayben Karasu UYSAL, who has actively taken part as a collaboration group member in ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment), attended the 5th forum of the Conference Series as a keynote speaker and shared her experiences and information regarding ALICE, to which each of the collaboration group members contributed with their ideas to design the heavy ion detector on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) ring.

More than 1000 scientists from over 100 physics institutes in 30 countries collaborated to design the ALICE detector to measure, in the most accurate way possible, the particles produced by the collisions in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and to understand how extreme temperatures generated by LHC give rise to particles that constitute the matter of the universe today.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayben Karasu UYSAL: “CERN Experiment aims to explain how the System in Universe constructed”.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, the fifth forum of the Conference Series hosted Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayben Karasu UYSAL as the keynote speaker. Assoc. Prof. Dr. UYSAL is one of the forerunners of studies and experiments on physics particularly on quantum chromo-dynamics. Within the scope of her lecture, she delivered information regarding the CERN experiment and the history of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, (CERN).

Indicating that Turkey has been an associate member of CERN since 2015, she stated that the convention establishing CERN was ratified in1954 by 12 countries in Western Europe. Highlighting the great importance of CERN experiments for human history in terms of acquiring information about the evolution system of the universe, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayben Karasu UYSAL stated that many activities at CERN currently involve operating the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and seven experiments consisting of CMS, ATLAS, LHCb, MoEDAL, TOTEM, LHC-forward and ALICE. She underlined that each of these experiments use different technologies to study particle collisions from a different aspect to provide information about the existence of the world and universe.

Stating that Large Hadron Collider (LHC) tunnel is located in a vast cavern 60 meters below ground, Assoc. Prof: Dr. UYSAL underlined that ALICE is a heavy-ion detector on LHC ring. Underlining that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is designed to ensure the collision of protons and ions not only at a much higher energy but also at a much larger rate than ever before, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayben Karasu UYSAL explained that the opposing proton particles injected in the round-shaped tubes were accelerated to line up the two beams so that they collided into each other. She put forth that the energy emerged during this collision could explain how the world and universe came into existence.

The Conference Attracted Great Interest……

Assoc. Prof. Dr. UYSAL, who delivered detailed information regarding physics, ended her presentation by answering respective questions directed to her at the end of the conference. Taking the stage after her presentation, Near East University Vice Rector Mustafa KURT extended his appreciations to Associate Professor UYSAL in recognition of her unique contributions to the conference, and presented her a plaque demonstrating Near East University’s devotion to contributing to the process of producing science. Besides Vice Rector Professor Mustafa KURT presented the certificate demonstrating the tree planted in Near East Science Forest in name of Associate Professor Ayben Karasu UYSAL.

Who is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayben Karasu UYSAL?

She was born in Ankara in 1979. After completing her undergraduate degree in Physics department of Yıldız Technical University in 2002, she completed her graduate degree in 2004. She achieved her PhD degree in 2011 by conducted a study on the measurements of short half-life particle in high-energy collisions within the scope of A Large Ion Collider Experiment (ALICE) at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). As a postdoctoral researcher, she is the first Turkish scientist that participated in ALICE in 2012-2013. She is currently a member and editor of the ALICE collaboration group that prepare articles on the formation of short half-life particles. Her research interests cover the properties QGP (Quark-Gluon Plasma) and the Heavy-Ion Collisions at ultra-relativistic energies. Since her PhD, she works on the ALICE experiment at the LHC collider located near Geneva, Switzerland.

Associate Professor Ayben Karasu UYSAL also has many years of experience in data analysis, modeling, statistics as well as a very strong background in mathematics and programming. She has conducted 3 scientific projects and she is co-author of more than 100 scientific publications that cited more than 2000 times. She also carries out TUBITAK and TAEK supported projects simultaneously. Within this process, she was awarded by TUBITAK and CERN in recognition of her accomplishments.
