Near East University’s Health Projects attract attention in Dubai

Near East University was represented in the conference titled “Engineering Innovations in Healthcare International Conference”, a part of the series of Developments in Science and Engineering Technology (ASET 2018), organized by High Technology College (HTC) in Dubai.

According to the information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, the conference held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates was attended by faculty members of the Biomedical Engineering Department of Near East University Faculty of Engineering, Assist Prof. Dr. Dilber Uzun Özşahin and Assist Prof. Dr. Dr. İlker Özşahin who were invited to the conference as guest speakers.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilber Uzun Özşahin, the specialist on the “Fuzzy PROMETHEE” method from the Near East University, shared the developments on using the Fuzzy PROMETHEE which was developed to diagnose the benign or malignant cancerous cells and to shed light on artificial intelligence, decision theory, fuzzy systems methodology, nuclear medicine, radiology, pathology and many other fields. Asst. Assist. Prof. Dr. Özşahin’s presentation titled “Speech Analysis of Algorithms of Nuclear Medical Imaging Techniques Using Fuzzy Promethee Method in Multiple Criteria Decision Making Techniques” has received great interest from participants.

Assist. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin presented a study called “Small Animal Imaging with microPET for the Investigation of the Effect of General Anesthesia on Brain Function”, which he collaboratively conducted with the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Medical School. The study will be published in the IEEE Xplore, which is scanned on the web of science.

Joint Research and Student Exchange Program proposed
During the conference, Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilber Uzun Özşahin and Assist. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin received cooperation proposals from Ajman University and Sharjah University, for joint research projects and student exchange program with the Near East University.

“Fuzzy PROMETHEE” can be used to determine small lesions up to 5mm
Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilber Uzun Özşahin stated that using the Fuzzy PROMETHEE method, it is possible to see and locate the lesions as low as 5 mm by the techniques used in the analysis of imaging algorithms from nuclear medicine imaging techniques.
