Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eylem Ümit Atilgan, Lecturer of Near East University, Faculty of Law, Department of Law Philosophy and Sociology of Law, presented a paper at the Law & Society conference in Toronto, Canada.

According to the press information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eylem Ümit Atılgan made a presentation titled “Unjust provocation remission on women murders” at the Law & Society conference, which has the characteristic of being the largest network of academicians conducting sociological research in law in the world and held every year since 1964. This year’s theme was “Law at Crossroads” and hundreds of academics from different countries participated in the conference.

Near East University lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atılgan emphasized that “Unjust provocation remission on women murders” in Turkey proceedings has been compared with the cases in countries such as Mexico and Nicaragua which are in struggle against the violence imposed on women. In a special session titled “Comparative Approach to Struggle against Women Murders”, Assoc. Dr. Paulina Garcia Del Moral from Wisconsin University, Pamela Neumann from Tulane University, and Sumru Atuk from the City of New Yorin the Regulatory-Planning Committee at the Law & Society Association …k University made presentations.

Speakers started to work on this project to be published as a special issue about the women murders in the Law & Society Review upon the recommendation of editors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atılgan was elected for the second time to the Coordination-Planning Committee, and qualified to represent the Near East University at the Law & Society Association in 2018-2019.
