Near East University Faculty of Communication, Department of Visual Communication and Design held a research expedition to Famagusta regarding “City Aesthetics”

As part of the Typography-Graphics Design course given at the Department, Head of Department of Visual Communication and Design, Faculty of Communication of Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe KEÇECİ and NEU Academic Member Selma GÜRANİ went on a research expedition to Famagusta with a group of 25 students. The students were taken to the walled city of Famagusta as part of their “2nd City Aesthetics” expedition.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, at the first research expedition the students were taken to make observations regarding the city of Kyrenia; observing the cultural, historical and natural features of the city. The expedition was carried out so as to consider improvements to the quality of life at this city. Recently, the students were taken to the walled city of Famagusta to make observations on sign posts and traffic direction signs along the roads; street lighting design; advertising signboards; bins, pavements, etc. all of which have n impact on the aesthetics of a city. Throughout the expedition, the students took notes and took photographs to report their observations.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe KEÇECİ: “Making a comparison between aesthetic concepts and visual framework and making relative solutions”

Representative Dean of Faculty of Communication of Near East University and Head of Department of Visual Communication and Design Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe KEÇECİ made a statement on the matter and expressed that quality of living and modern civilization is a reflection of the cultural aspects of a community, its social structure and justice understanding of that community.

She added that making applications which support the universal design-aesthetic principles considered in the Department courses has become a basic mission at the Department. Furthermore, the research expeditions carried out aimed to provide the students opportunities to make comparisons on aesthetics and visual framework of Nicosia, Kyrenia, Famagusta, Iskele and Guzelyurt and seek relative solutions to issues observed. In this regard, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe KEÇECİ pointed out that subsequent to expeditions made to Kyrenia and Famagusta, they would be continuing to Guzelyurt, Iskele and Nicosia.
