Near East University Department of Interior Design participated in the 6th Meeting of the Interaction and Communication Platform for National Inter-Graduate Programs

Hosted by the Department of Interior Architecture of Karadeniz Technical University, the 6th meeting of the Interaction and communication Platform for National Inter-Graduate Programs (ULPIEP), and the 10th Meeting of Chairpersons of Departments of Interior Architecture (IBBT) were realized between November 30 and December 1, 2017.

The Head of the Department of Interior Architecture of Near East University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Huriye Gürdallı participated in ULPIEP and IBBT and represented Near East University successfully.

According to the press info released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, 19 universities from Turkey and TRNC offering YÖK approved programs participated in the 6th Meeting of Interaction and Communication Platform for Natıonal Inter-Graduate Programs.

The meetings aimed to discuss and develop strategies for identifying and correcting problems faced during education and also in market conditions. In this regard, the theme of the meeting was determined as KAIZEN, which means “Continuous Improvement”, which is a combination of the words kai (change) and zen (good) in Japanese.

After introductory presentations of Karadeniz Technical University and the Department of Interior Architecture, the program began with the opening speech of Professor Saadettin Korkmaz, the Director of the Graduate School of Applied Sciences. Then, the Head of KTU Department of Interior Architecture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Aydıntan delivered general information about ULPIEP meetings. Then, the Head of Interior Architecture Department of Bahçeşehir University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sezin Tanrıöver presented her impressions regarding the 5th ULPIEP meeting that hosted by Bahçeşehir University.

Following the opening remarks, “GÖR-ÖNGÖR” workshop was initiated. “GÖRMEK (see)” refers to the determination of the present situation, “ÖNGÖRMEK (foresee)” means to predict what will happen in the future, to decide in advance, to think and plan for the future. Working groups worked on the main headings consisting of “Institutional Structure and Operation” “Education Program”, Academic Structure” and “Accreditation” by using SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis and presented their assessments to the participants, thus situation assessments and solution proposals for identified problems were debated.

The Meeting of the Chairpersons of the Departments of Interior Architecture (IBBT) was realized on 1 December 2017 with participation of 27 universities from Turkey and TRNC.

The meeting began with the opening speech of Professor Yalçın Yaşar, the Dean of KTU Faculty of Architecture. Then, the Head of KTU Department of Interior Architecture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Aydıntan delivered general information about IBBT meetings. Then, interior designer Emrah Kaymak, Chairman of the Chamber of Interior Architects of TMMOB (Union of Chambers of Turkish Architects and Engineers), delivered information about the activities of the chamber as well as the developments experienced in the sector. Then, the Head of Interior Architecture Department of Bahçeşehir University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sezin Tanrıöver presented her impressions regarding the 9th IBBT that hosted by Bahçeşehir University.

Following the opening remarks and presentations, the Interior Architecture Product Exhibition of the Interior Architecture Department was held in the framework of the organization.
