Doctor Ülvan Özad from Hospital of Near East University completed her project that she carried out within the scope of Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), which is a leading US institution in developing quality in healthcare services. The project that developed to ensure the improvement of public health appreciated by international groups concerned with the issue.

A Project aimed at the improvement of public health…

According to the press release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, the improvement of public health is the basic aim of the project conducted by Near East University Hospital doctor Ülvan Özad. Doctor Ülvan Özad has designed the project by considering the fact that people often ignore the vital importance of early diagnosis in cancer cases that are very prevalent in TRNC. Dr. Özad along with NEU Faculty of Medicine students Nur Shanableh, Sarah Dabbas, Noor Bazerbashi and Safiye Takır has successfully completed the project, that comprises study regarding the crucial role of early diagnosis in saving lives of patients suffering from cancer with high prevalence such as cervical, breast and colon cancers for which national effective screening programs are available.

Doctor Ülvan Özad was granted with academic scholar award by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in recognition of her contribution to public health with her project as well as her academic achievements in educational process. Based in Massachusetts-United States, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement is a leading organization that drives activities in five continents to improve the quality of healthcare services in dozens of countries. IHI undertakes it as its mission to ensure a future in which everyone has the best care and health possible. Delivering an explanation regarding the issue, Dr. Ülvan Özad voiced her happiness due to the success of the project and the certificate that she was awarded. “Early and accurate diagnosis has a vital role in staging and restaging for the optimal therapeutic management of patients. As Near East University Hospital, we attach great importance on the issue and continuously equip our infrastructure with the latest cutting-edge technological systems used for diagnosing and guiding the treatment of cancer early and accurately. We also carry out activities to create awareness on the vital role of early diagnosis as cancer incidents have increased dramatically especially in recent years. Cancer is a disease that significantly affects the quality of life. Cancer scanning and imagining techniques are available in TRNC. However, early diagnosis, which is very vital for patients, is often ignored by people due to their callousness. From this point forth, I designed the project and carried out studies on various cancer types along with NEU Faculty of Medicine students Nur Shanableh, Sarah Dabbas, Noor Bazerbashi and Safiye Takır. I am very glad that our project was appreciated and crowned with an award” said she.
