Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts opened with a grand ceremony

Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts featuring important works of painters from 14 Turkic states and located in the Museums Area on campus of the Near East University opened with a magnificient ceremony.

According to the press information provided by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, the opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, the Vice President of the National Assembly, Mr. Zorlu Töre, the Founding Rector of the Near East University Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit, Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Atağolu, Near East University Board of Trustees President Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, TURKSOY officials, deputies, rectors and vice-rectors, deans, artists from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Turkic Republics, and invited guests.

The Ceremony began with reading of the National Anthem and one minute silence in memory of the fallen, and then Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, Tourism and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, Near East University Rector. Dr. Ümit Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East University Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, Askar Turganbayev on behalf of TURKSOY, State Artist Rafael Kadyrov from the Republic of Bashkortostan, State Artist Cuma Aman Durdi on behalf of the Painters of the Republic of Turkmenistan, State Artist Mohammed Fazilov delivered speeches. Dr. Hüseyin Kasinov, Secretary General of TURKSOY presented a plaque to Dr. Suat İ. Günsel at the ceremony.

Professor Dr. Ümit Hassan: The Museum will be the synthesis of the development of our existence”
Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan, who delivered the first speech at the ceremony, said that the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts reflects the leadership of entrepreneurship, insights in making investments, aesthetic and technical formation abilities of Dr. Suat İ. Günsel.

Rector Prof. Dr. Hassan also said that the museum will provide a reflection of the history of Cyprus’s cultural heritage, adding that “pre-classification of the accumulation of works of art, reflecting the final classification of the entire existence of the museum belongs to Suat Günsel”. In his speech he referred to TURKSOY, the joint administration of Turkic culture and arts. Dr. Hassan said ” We continue to form important integrals in music, painting, sculpture and architecture. With this museum, the naive styles of the Turkic painters have reached to a new synthesis by searching for the possibilities of new beauties”. Dr. Hassan also emphasized the importance of unity between TURKSOY and us.

Prof. Dr. Hassan said “The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts will have a multi-dimensional functionality. This museum will both be the centre of development of our self-existence and the synthesis of what we will receive from the international platform and what we will give to it. The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts will reintroduce our aestheticized world. While it will be the artistic reflection of the cultural existence of Cyprus, which will be represented in painting, sculpture and ethnographic assets, it will also contribute to the unity of the 14 Turkic Republics and will lead to the formation of modern arts with a new perspective. The Cypriot painting works will be exhibited and enriched. It will be able to prepare an important basis for the interrelations between the different schools and their interrelations. It will provide new opportunities for education.”

Rafael Kayrov: The Museum will be the Basis of the Development of Civilization
State Artist Rafael Kayrov, speaking on behalf of the Republic of Bashkortostan, emphasized the preservation of cultural heritage and stated that the newly opened museum would be the foundation of the further development of civilization. Kavrov stating that the museums are the most universal communication language of the nations as well as a unique way of modern communication, said that the number of museums is increasing gradually. Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts is a product of creativity, Kayrov said, and added; “The museum is a reflection of righfullness of Dr. Suat Günsel who claims that the museum values can pass through from one hand to another. Kayrov also stated that he has every confidence that Suat Günsel having a respectful attitude towards fine arts and their creators, will turn his land into an art space.
