Cooperation between NEU Faculty of Architecture and Dikmen Municipality

-As part of the planned Kent Park (city park) to be established in Dikmen, the project regarding the Botanical Design was completed with the help of NEU Department of Landscape Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture.

The cooperation between the Department of Landscape. Architecture of Faculty of Architecture of Near East University, and Dikmen Municipality has started. As a result of the efforts of the Department of Landscape Architecture, the project regarding the botanical design of the “Kent Park” was completed.

According to the press info release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, a meeting was held for evaluating the projects and at that meeting, the Head of Department of Landscape Architecture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Özden Fuller made a short speech and said: “City Parks are locations enabling people to get away from the stresses of daily city lives, besides enabling opportunities for people to socialise. Additionally, these parks also serve an educational purpose for young generations; such that they are used to create an awareness and a caring feeling for the environment.” She ended her words by expressing many thanks to everyone involved in bringing the project to life.

Dean of NEU Faculty of Architecture, Prof.Dr. Uğurcan Akyüz, made a particular emphasis on the necessity for cooperation between local institutions and universities. He further expressed that they were highly honoured since the students of NEU Faculty of Architecture had found the opportunity to participate in such an important project. He further thanked the academic staff of Department of Landscape Architecture and NEU students and Dikmen Municipality for their efforts to realise the project.

Also making a speech, Mayor of Dikmen Yüksel Çelebi said: “Kent Park Project is a significant project in terms of regional reconstruction. Furthermore, I believe that it will be a comprehensive green area which will meet the social needs of the community.” He ended his words by expressing gratitude to Near East University for its contributions to the project.

As part of the press release made by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the project will cover a large area in Dikmen and provide services such as picnic areas; a restaurant; an amphitheatre; children’s play areas and a wedding ceremony area. It was stated that the project is aimed to be completed within a short period of time.
