Students and lecturers of Department of Music Education of Near East University attended summer school of “CAKA Masterclass & Concerti Classic Castello” and obtained various trainings. According to a press statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, specialist and PhD student Neriman SOYKUNT, MA Student Ayşe DERMUŞ and lecturer and Presidential Symphony Orchestra Artist Sinem SADRAZAM attended to the summer school of “CAKA Masterclass & Concerti Classic Castello” and obtained various trainings between 9-17 July in Diano Castello City of Italy. In the summer school coordinated by Roberto Issoglio, 19 teachers, including Cihat AŞKIN from Turkey, have carried out teaching activities in 9 different areas, especially in viola, cello, piano and orchestra. This year the summer school received record participation and intensive activities such as individual and collective lessons, master classes (master), student concerts and yoga classes for instructors, concerts and social activities took place for participants.

2015-2016 Academic Year Spring Term graduates of the Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education received their diplomas with a glorious ceremony. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Özdemir Berova, Minister of National Education, Faiz Sucuoğlu, Minister of Health, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel, NEU vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Fahreddin Sadıkoğlu and Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, faculty members, teaching staff, guests, students and their parents participated in the graduation ceremony. The graduation ceremony began with stand in silence and followed by national anthem. The music recital performed by the students of Music Teaching Department received standing ovation. Then Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Uzunboylu, Dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education, NEU vice Rector Fahreddin Sadıkoğlu, Health Minister Dr. Faiz Sucuoğlu and National Education Minister Özdemir Berova delivered opening remarks respectively. Following the speeches, the graduates received their diplomas. For the first time this year, the graduates ranking the top three in faculty and those ranking the top in their departments were honored with medals. The medals were decorated by the Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel on behalf of Near East University. The ceremony ended with throwing graduation caps accompanied by firework display in honor of graduates.
Organized by the Department of English Language Teaching within the frame of Scientific Research Methods, the second and third grade students’ course, the 1st Undergraduate Day was held at Navy-Blue Hall. According to the Press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Çise Çavuşoğlu, Deputy Chairperson of the Department of English Language Teaching, delivered the opening speech of the event. In her opening remarks, she underlined the commitment of Near East University in encouraging research-oriented education in order to provide the students with opportunities to develop a cutting-edge career through approaches based on research and innovation. “Within the scope of this vision, we have organized this event to reflect not only our devotion to raise our students as the first caliber teachers of English but also the fact that we provide all opportunities to encourage them to be open to inquisitive and innovative approaches” said she. According to the info provided by the Department of English Teaching, the event, which was held for the first time this year, would be held in the coming years and the presentations would continue to be open to public in order to enable persons that involved in the field to benefit from research outcomes.
An In-Service Training was given to Secondary Education Teachers on Sustainable Environmental Education Program
An in-service training was realised within the framework of the “Sustainable Environmental Educational Program”, which was particularly developed to increase the secondary education teachers’ awareness on the environment. Upon the completion of the program, certificates were given to the teachers via a ceremony which was held by Dean of NEU Atatürk Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Uzunboylu, held at Near East University Grand Library Hall 2. According to the press release by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, a 30 hours in-service training on Sustainable Environmental Education to Secondary Education Teachers was given at the helm of the doctorate student at the NEU Atatürk Faculty of Education, Nazım Kaşot. As part of this program, 40 teachers working for the Ministry of National Education, of different branches, were provided face-to-face training, training via social media, nature trips and distance education so as to increase their awareness’s on the environment and learn means of reflecting this awareness to their students. Making a statement on the matter, stated the in-service titled as the Sustainable Environmental Education to Secondary Education Teachers was the first of its kind and that it was to shed light on future in-service trainings to be organised. He congratulated the teachers for their achievements at the program and expressed gratitude to academic members Nazım Kaşot, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökmen Dağlı and Assist. Prof. Dr. Kemal Batman for realizing the program.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay, co-chairs of Social Research and Development Centre which is connected to Centre of Excellence, were the editors of the book titled Project and Research Management in Information and Technology Age. According to a press statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, the book, published by Vize Publications, is a handbook for those who would attempt to carry out research and projects within the global market where competition is a must, and have the qualifications on research methods and executive leadership. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay, who led the projects and activities related to disabled, stated that part of the income received from the sales of the book will be donated to the foundations in charge of disabled people, and expressed their wish that the book becomes a useful source for scientific world.
Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education Department of Preschool Teaching actualized the Waste Material Design Exhibition
Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education Department of Preschool Teaching actualized the Waste Product Exhibition that displayed art objects created by the students from various waste materials during the courses on ‘Child Mental Health’ and ‘Environmental Education’ that implemented by Expert Güldal Kan and Nazım Kaşot respectively. According the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, over twenty art of waste objects that created by ‘Child Mental Health’ course students and almost 30 objects that created from various waste materials by ‘Environmental Education’ course students were displayed at the exhibition. In addition, a playing house corner based on game-structured technique was prepared in order to reflect the inconsistencies between the subjective and objective experiences of children. The exhibition meant to raise awareness and understanding by giving the message ‘waste is not waste, it’s a resource, waste can even be art’.
An Artist and Head of Department of Art Teaching of Atatürk Faculty of Education of Near East University, Fatoş Miralay has been awarded the Literature and Art Award given to 16 women by the English School; a school which is considered to be one of the most prestigious secondary schools in the Middle East and Europe. According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, it was revealed that as part of the “Justice Project” run by the English School, 16 women were awarded Literature and Art Award and Head of Department of Art Teaching of Atatürk Faculty of Education of Near East University, Fatoş Miralay was chosen as one of the 16 women to be rewarded with an award. Furthermore, it was stated that due to international women’s day, a ceremony was held at The English School Headmaster Residency on March 8th, 2016. Moreover, it was pointed out that the Greek Literature Club had also opened a photography exhibition at the event. The exhibition was expressed to involve photographs regarding; “women” “LGBT Individuals” “ethnic minorities” and “refugees”. Making a short speech as she was rewarded her award, Head of Department of Art Teaching of Atatürk Faculty of Education of Near East University stated that she was honoured to receive such a significant award and thanked everyone for choosing her.
An introduction day was held on the educational software “Concept World” developed particularly for the Mentally Disabled Students
As part of a doctorate thesis at the Department of Computer and Educational Technologies of Near East University, a software which aims to help and improve the understanding of concepts in mentally disabled students, developed by Emrah Soykan, and is designed to be used on tablets was itroduced. According to the press info release by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, as the result of eight months of effort to develop the software, the software which was particularly developed for the mentally disabled students “Concept World” was introduced at an introduction day. It was revealed that academic members, representatives from non-governmental institutions, teachers and students had attended the introduction day and that the opening speech of the event was made by Head of NEU Department of Computer and Educational Technologies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fezile Özdamlı. In her speech, she expressed that this software had significance since it was exemplar both academically and in terms of usage in the field of educational technology. Furthermore, she expressed that this software was also important since it raised awareness regarding use in special education. She thanked everyone for attending the day and congratulated her student, Emrah Soykan, for successfully completing such an important and beneficial software. It was revealed that software developer Emrah Soykan made a presentation, expressing the phases of software development and its educational features. Then, a tablet was used to demonstrate educational uses which had been closely observed by the attendees of the introduction day. Subsequently, images of fruitful moments taken during the use of the software by teachers and students were shown. At the end of his presentation, Soykan expressed gratitude to special education centres and their teachers, thesis advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fezile Özdamlı, Dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Uzunboylu and to all authorities of Near East University for continuous support for actualising the development of the software.
Near East University Department of Music Teaching participated in the Bilkent University Violin Days
Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education Department of Music Teaching Participated in the violin days held by Bilkent University. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Department of Music Teaching participated in the 2nd Violin Days organised by Bilkent University. It was revealed that Head of Department of Music Teaching of Near East University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ertem Nalbantoğlu, academic member of the department who teaches viola, Sinem Sadrazam and 8 violin, 2 viola students actively participated in the event. It was pointed out that the event was organised in honour of the Great Turkish Violinist and state artist Ayla Erduran and that worldly renown soloist violin tutors Mincho Minchev, İtzhak Rashkovsky, Lutsia İbragimova, Cihat Aşkın, İldiko Moog, Ellen Jevvet, Gülen Ege Serter, Şeniz Aybuluş, Şenol Aydın, Rasim Bağırov, Bahar Kutay, Feruza Abdullaeva, Adilhoca Aziz and Muhammedjan Turdiev ustalık performed outstandingly at the event. Along with distinguished conservatories of Turkey, Near East University Department of Music Teaching was actively represented at the event… Making a statement regarding the matter, Coordinator Muhammedjan Turdiev stated that a large part of the responsibility to promote and nurture love of music in the community fell to music teachers. He further emphasised that music teachers were at a key location to channel ‘art’ to the community, he therefore stressed that music teachers needed to be raised well. In this regard, he pointed out the participation of Near East University to the event was significant and that he wished the cooperation between the establishments continued in the future as well. Also making a statement on the matter, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ertem Nalbantoğlu expressed that NEU Department of Music Teaching was only at its third year and that it had achieved to be in an event in Bilkent University, with distinguished conservatories of Turkey and with highly esteemed violin tutors. Furthermore, he stressed that through this event future music teachers to be, studying at NEU Department of Music Teaching, had found the opportunity to observe and experience worldly renown violin tutors, observe masterclass, performances of young virtuosos and the level and tempo of efforts, which all surely made a great contribution to them. Moreover, Nalbantoğlu, expressed many thanks to Muhammedjan Turdiev and Assist. Prof. Dr. Kağan Korad for inviting them over to Bilkent University, and he also thanked the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel for giving them support in participating in such a fruitful event. Assist. Prof. Dr. Ertem Nalbantoğlu ended his words by stating that a strong bond has been established between the Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education Department of Music Teaching and participating conservatory tutors at Bilkent University and that in a short period of time, they intended to organise joint work together.
