Asst. Prof. Dr. Barış Kaya, Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist at NEU Hospital, has taken place in world medical literature with the novel caesarean technique that he specified it with his own name. Kaya’s study on “Extra-abdominal removal of placenta during cesarean section: A prospective randomized controlled trial of a novel technique” was accepted by Journal of Perinatal Medicine, which is the Official Journal of the World Association of Perinatal Medicine.
Kaya Technique provides opportunity to minimize the amount of blood accumulation in the abdominal cavity during removal of placenta.
According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Asst. Prof. Kaya delivered information regarding his technique. “After the delivery of the fetus during a caesarean section, the uterus is dragged out of abdominal cavity and the placenta, the organ that allows the blood exchange between baby and mother, is manually removed together with uterine massage as soon as possible. This technique provides opportunity to minimize the amount of blood normally flowing into the abdominal cavity during removal of placenta and contributes to the reduction of morbidity associated with caesarean” said he.
Advantages for caesarean section
Stating that they conducted clinical trials at Near East University Hospital within the frame of his study, Asst. Prof. Dr. Barış Kaya delivered further information regarding the aim of his technique. “This technique doesn’t change the blood loss during surgery, the duration of surgery and the postoperative pain. However, my study aims to ensure homeostasis as well as to decrease the amount of hemorrhagic fluid and fibrin in the abdominal cavity during caesarean section. Hemorrhagic fluid and fibrin together may cause adhesion formation and therefore postoperative ileus. Compared to conventional caesarean section method, extra-abdominal removal of the placenta may decrease the amount of blood flowing into the abdominal cavity during removal of placenta. This means that less time is needed to clean up the hemorrhagic fluid in the abdomen. This technique may reduce the risk of postoperative ileus. Postoperative bowel adhesion in abdominal cavity is one of the major problems associated with caesarean section. I hope this novel technique will minimize the risk of adhesions in abdomen cavity” said he.
A technique that never used before
Touching upon the significance of his novel technique, Asst. Prof. Dr. Barış Kaya expressed his views regarding the issue: “As it is a new technique, we need to wait and see its outcomes. A wide range of studies regarding the issue should be carried out all over the world and the results should be discussed”.
Stating that they started the studies concerned with this novel technique at Near East University Hospital in the year of 2014, Asst. Prof. Dr. Barış Kaya underlined that it was hard to define a technique that never used before during caesarean section, which is the most frequently performed surgery across the entire world. Asst. Prof. Dr. Barış Kaya voiced his happiness of having his name written in the world medical literature as well as making the name of Near East University Hospital and TRNC known once again all over the world.
