She was born in 1949,31st of August in Ankara. Her father was the undersecretary of the Turkish General Railways Company and her mother was a housewife. She graduated from Bahçelievler Cumhuriyet High School in 1966. After completing her education in Ankara University, Press and Broadcasting School of political sciences Faculty; she had the post in Research and Planning Department and Radio Ankara of Turkish Radio and Television Corporation. In 1972, she became an assistant at Press and Broadcasting School of political sciences Faculty where she graduated from. She got the degree of PhD in Political Science from Ankara University with the thesis called The Production Processes and Problems of Turkish Cinema. She was appointed associate professor in 1988 and professor in 1993.
Abisel, having done researches in Great Britain with the six-month-abroad scholarship given by Ankara University in 1981-1982, and was hosted by Canberra University of Australia for a year as a wisiting researcher in 1999-2000. Having worked at Near East University, Communication Faculty in 2005-2006 academic year as a wisiting professor, Abisel got retired from Ankara University in 2006. Since then, she has been working as the Head of Public Relations and Advertisement Department at the Faculty of Communication of Near East University.
During her tenure at the Faculty of Communication of Ankara University, Abisel served as the Head of Radio, Television, Cinema Department during 1995-1999 and 2000-2003. She was a member of Faculty Administrative Board and Faculty Academic Board for various periods. Having lectured on cinema in varied under graduate and graduate programmes she has four published books, and many scientific articles and newspaper articles.
Abisel, was also member of jury at some film competitions and “First Woman Cinema Professor in Turkey’’ reward was given by Uçan Süpürge Film Festival.
