Çelik Aruoba was born in Ankara. Graduated from TED Ankara College (1960) and Faculty of Political Science of Ankara University (1965); became PhD, economics in 1971, associate Professor in 1977 and University Professor in 1989. He was in University of California, Berkeley, 1972-1973, and ; in Stanford University in 1983-1984 as visiting scholar. He worked as Consultant to the Undersecretary of State for State Planning Organization in 1978-1979; Director, Center for Development Studies and Social Research (GETA) in 1979-1982; Secretary General, Turkish Economic Association in 1980-1982; Consultant to the president of The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in 1999- 2001. At present he is a faculty member, Chairman of the Ethics Board and Director of Social Sciences Institute of NEU.
During his professional career he worked and taught, Turkish Economy, international trade, food and nutrition, agricultural economics and environmental economics. He also conducted a large number of research and field studies and have various publications in those subjects
