The Orthopedic prosthetic orthotics (O&P) technicians are intermediate staff capable of carrying out a wide range of tasks. Q&P technicians fabricate orthopedic braces and artificial limbs to provide the best possible fit and function. They are capable of taking the gypsum measure of the size of the prosthesis to be implanted to provide external support to a part of the body (foot, the upper leg, the larger lower leg, hand, and wrist) and casting plastic in the mold, and adjusting prosthesis. An O&P technician needs to be an expert in techniques used to fabricate devices, skilled in the use of hand and power tools, and trained in the selection and use of appropriate materials. The O&P technician’s domain is a lab or workshop that affiliated with the rehabilitation units of public or private health facilities. Currently, a lack of qualified O&T technicians is experienced both in our country and the world.
The overriding aim of this two-year associate degree program is to provide the most up-to-date education in compliance with international standards and raise very qualified and first caliber O&P technicians that equipped with appropriate knowledge and skills required to meet the increasing need of the sector. The program is well designed to raise O&P technicians with strong professional knowledge and skills, compassion, problem solving abilities, creativity, dedication, excellent hand skills and strong professional ethics.
