Emine Efetürk was born on 13 November 1960 in Hornsey, North London, where she attended primary school and Hornsey High School for Girls. Having completed her secondary school education with GCE ‘O’ Levels and then ‘A’ Levels, she began working at Lloyds Bank, London, in 1979. After getting married, she left the banking profession in 1983 to raise her four children.
Emine moved to Cyprus with her family in 1994. She taught English as a second language at the Turkish Cypriot – English Cultural Association from 1996 to 1998, focusing on Speaking. She was also on the board of directors there.
She continued her education and qualified in English Language Teaching (ELT) at Eastern Mediterranean University in 1999. She started working there as an English Language lecturer in 2000, teaching in the ‘Service English’ Department and also participated in the preparation of exam papers and teaching materials. In 2002, she joined Girne American University (GAU) elementary and nursery, and a year later began employment at Near East University Preparatory School, where she is currently working. Her duties have included the role of co-ordinator and she has been teaching students of medicine and pharmacy. She has taken part in a range of ELT courses, and attended various seminars and workshops. In her career as a teacher, Emine has enjoyed working with students of all ages, from nursery and primary to adults.
