Ceyda Barkin was born in Nicosia, Cyprus on the 10th May 1981, to civil servant parents. She attended the primary school, Sehit Tuncer Ilkokulu and finished the secondary school, Turk Maarif Koleji in 1998 which are both in Nicosia. In 2000, she received a scholarship to the faculty of Arts, at Eastern Mediterranean University in Famagusta, Cyprus where she studied English Literature and Humanities. She then obtained her BA degree in 2004 with high honours. She also attended the Leadership and Community Service Program in Washington DC, USA which lasted a month. She received a Master’s degree in education from the department of Educational Sciences at Near East University in 2005.
She started to work at Near East University in 2005. Before joining the Preparatory School, she worked as an instructor in the department of Educational Sciences for one semester.
She has been a faculty member in the Preparatory School at Near East University as an English teacher since then. During the period 2005 and 2011 she attended several seminars on topics such as writing, classroom management, memory, teaching vocabulary, body language and education through music.
She is active in civic and social organizations including animal rights.
Her interests include reading, watching documentaries and doing research in women studies.
