ETKS 603 – Introduction To Toxicology And Basic Toxicological Consepts
This course aims to develop an understanding of basic principles in toxicology, classification of toxic effect, factors affecting toxicity, mechanisms of toxic effect.

ETKS 604 – Analytical Toxicology
Sampling for toxicological analysis, extraction of xenobiotics from biological samples, determining qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques, principles of analytical toxicological methods, validation of findings, and the discussion of laboratory results in terms of toxicological considerations will be given to the attendants.

ETKS 605 – Introduction To Clinical Toxicology
This course will provide students with basic information about toxicity of pharmaceutical, environmental and occupational agents; possible toxicity biomarkers

ETKS 606 – Disaster Toxicology
Definiton of disaster and its risk factors and classification; evaluation of the effects of disaster on health and environment from a toxicological aspect; quantitative and qualitative analysis of disaster factors and biomarker usage for determination of these factors; toxicological assessment of important disaster cases in Turkey and in the world.

Definition of doping, historical development, classification of doping substances and methods, the risks of doping substances on athlete health, national and international anti-doping efforts, sampling for doping analysis, doping control centers, food supplements and their risks in sports will be lectured.

ETKS 610 – Phytotoxicology
Knowledge about the plants which cause poisoning most frequently in Turkey and their undesirable effects; classification of poisonous plants according their systemic toxic effects and investigation of their toxicity; treatment approaches; safety usage of the plants which are used in treatment.

ETKS 611 – Forensic Toxicology
Basic concepts and characteristics of forensic toxicology; preparation of the samples in order to determinate unknown substances in biologic samples.

ETKS 701 – General Concepts in Toxicology
Knowledge transfer in acute poisoning treatment, safe usage of therapeutics in pregnancy and lactation, in pediatric and geriatric populations; general principles of safe use of therapeutics in chronic diseases like cardiovascular diseases and in cancer; drug toxicity in risky periods, precaution and treatment

ETKS 702 – Toxicokinetics
Four potential processes exist for a chemical interacting with an animal: absorption, distribution, biotransformation and excretion. The chemical may be biotransformed through metabolism into other chemicals (metabolites). These metabolites can be more toxic than the parent compound. After this potential biotransformation occurs, the metabolites may leave the body, be transformed into other compounds, or continue to be stored in the body compartments. Thus, establishing relationships between exposures in toxicology experiments in animals and the corresponding exposures in humans will be also discussed.

ETKS 706 – Specific Antidotes
Basic principles on specific antidotes will be given. Thorough discussion on widely used antidotes and selected poisoning cases will also be discussed. Laboratory results from the postmortem samples will be evaluated fort he forensic considerations.
