To be accepted into the program; the ones who graduated from Faculty of Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Biology, Economics and Administrative Sciences Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the graduates from a 4-year-college or faculty who are competent to have education in Biostatistics are accepted for this department.

The total number of credits to be taken in the course of the semester is at least 21 credits. In addition, if appropriate, students might be required to take courses from other departments by the department
The language of education is both Turkish and English and the programme which will be carried out is a Master’s Degree Programme with thesis. Graduates who want to apply for the program must be graduated from the relevant departments of faculties and they must have at least 70 points in the type of the applicant’s department from the Entrance Exam of Academic Personnel and Graduate Education (ALES), which conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center (SSPC). The candidate must have the score of 50 points from YDS (Foreign Language Exam) or KPDS (Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees) or language exam of the Eastern University. In case of not submitting language proficiency report during the application, it should be submitted 1 year after provisional acceptance.

If necessary, grade-point average and interview report may be evaluated during the acceptance of Master’s Degree Programme, as well. The matters relating to this assessment and other documents such as a reference letter and a composition explaining why the candidate desires to study in the field are required to be submitted.

Having completed the master degree with thesis in the field of biostatistics or statistics.

Fulfil the requirement/specifications to start the postgraduate education programme at Graduate School of Health Sciences of Near East University.

The minimum number of course credit is 24 during a course period. In addition, if the department finds it necessary, it might require students to take courses from other departments. Or, the students might be required to complete courses in their own field.

The students are to provide the appropriate conditions in below in order to apply for the programmes of Proficiency In Art and Doctoral Programme:

a. Having a diploma in Faculty of Veterinary Science, Faculty of Pharmacy, Dentistry or Medical Faculty by being completed at least ten terms except for Preparation Classes; Having a postgraduate diploma or bachelor’s degree or baccalaureate in Art or in a department which has been determined in basis and approved by the board of institute directors; Having a certificate of expertise in a laboratory field/branch according to applicable legislation.

b. Having an ALES score ( Entrance Examination for Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education) which will be determined by Senate in the type of applied programme score; or, having a score in an equivalent exam.

c. Having a minimum score in ÜDS, accepted and determined as base success point by Senate or a score in a similar language exam.

The person completed this programme has the title of ‘Doctor of Science’ and gets ‘Doctor of Philosophy in Biostatistics’.

Made in the field of medicine and health sciences prospective, retrospective, cross-sectional and formative clinical, laboratory and field teaching of advanced data analysis methods used in the research.

Research planning, research topic selection, screening of resources, scientific writing critical, determining research objectives, identifying the research community and, for example; identification of data summarizing techniques, research project preparation, trial and principles applied research, scientific writing spelling rules.

The methods used in their lifetime, and examined the factors affecting them, introduction to survival analysis, the failure time, the life table techniques, nonparametric survival analysis, multivariate survival analysis (Cox regression).

Giving the students identify where and how to use these special terms and words used in the statistical analysis in the health field. Recognition of health, demographic statistics (birth-death-migration), population pyramids, population estimation methods, life table methods, morbidity statistics, the standardization of rates and ratios, international classification of diseases, measures indicating the health status, health records, basic research methods in health, risk measures.

Population and definitions of sampling, estimation (prediction), sampling distributions, estimators of (estimators) is focused on properties. Probabilistic and non-probabilistic sampling methods are introduced. Simple random sampling, systematic sampling, stratified random sampling, single and multi-stage cluster sampling, probability proportional to size sampling, field sampling, snowball sampling method on a detailed and practical examples and discusses the comparative discussed. Lecture of the responsible faculty member in the first week of classes, seminars and practices carried out in the coming weeks as a student. Students, each sampling method described with the sample will attract a certain audience, will derive estimates and sample sizes need to be heard and given the assignment period will compare the error. End of the semester, each student presents the assignment, which was prepared and is open to the whole class discussion.
