The Department of Histology and Embryology started its departmental studies as part of the Faculty of Veterinary of Near East University in the academic year 2011-2012. The Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Levent ERGÜN, previously Head of Department of Histology and Embryology of Faculty of Veterinary of Ankara University, now has been appointed as Head of Department. The Department of Histology and Embryology of Faculty of Veterinary of Near East University has been founded with the support of the Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Levent ERGÜN, and other academic staff; Prof. Dr. Ziya ÖZCAN, Prof. Dr. Reşat Nuri AŞTI, Prof. Dr. Belma ALABAY, Prof. Dr. Nevin KURTDEDE, Prof. Dr. Hikmet ALTUNAY, Prof. Dr. Asuman ÖZEN, Assoc. Prof .Dr. Alev Gürol BAYRAKTAROĞLU and Research Assistants as the academic staff.

Histology is also known as Tissue Science. This is a branch of science that deals with the minute structure of animal and plant tissues as discernible with the microscope. The fundamental aim of histology is to determine how tissues are organised at all structural levels, from cells and intercellular substances to organs. It can also be identified as Microscopic Anatomy.

As for Embryology, it is the branch of science which deals with the formation of zygotes, its early growth and development.

As part of its undergraduate program, the Department of Histology and Embryology facilitates the following theoretical and practical modules: Histology I, Histology II, Embryology Iand Embryology II.
