Prof. Dr. Ömer Memduh ESENDAL

He was born in Ankara in 1964. He graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ankara University in 1986. Same year, he started to work as a Research Fellow and concurrently has started study his PhD degree in the Department of Microbiology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ankara University. He spent a month between January 7 and February 8, 1990, in the University of Edinburgh, Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies studying on Veterinary Epidemiology with Prof. Dr. Michael THRUSFIELD. Right after this until the end of February 1990, he studies about the laboratory diagnosis of avian Mycoplasmas with Dr. Lorna TIMMS, at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF), Central Veterinary Laboratory, Weybridge. After completing his PhD thesis entitled “Detection of antibodies produced against Mycoplasma gallisepticum in chickens with different serological methods (slide agglutination, haemagglutination-inhibition, agar gel precipitation and ELISA) and comparison of the results” and got his PhD degree in 1991.

He was assigned as an Associate Professor, and as a Full Professor, in 1995 and 2001, respectively, in the same Department. He worked as a steering committee member at the Veterinary and Animal Science Research Group of Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) between 2002 and 2005. He worked as the Chief Editor of the Turkish Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, published by the same Council between 2002 and 2010. He was selected as a member of Experts Group of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) in 2004 and took part as a Basic Sciences Expert in the accreditation site visit of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Bologna between February 28 and March 5, 2005. Within the framework of Socrates-Erasmus Exchange Programme, he was assigned as a visiting professor to give undergraduate and postgraduate lectures again in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Bologna in 2006 and 2008.

He was assigned as the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Near East University, on October 1, 2009. He is still working as the Dean of the same Faculty. He speaks English with an advanced level, and Italian and French with a beginner level. He is married, and has a boy.
