İlksoy Aslım was born on Aprıl 1 1959 in Nicosia, Cyprus. His father was a policeman and mother a house-wife. İlksoy Aslım graduated from Binatlı Primary School. Between 1971-1974 he was a student at the English College. However, because of the war in Cyprus in 1974, he had to move to Anamur for a year. After he graduated from Güzelyurt Kurtuluş Lice he got his undergraduate degree from Near East University in 2000 with a GPA of 3.99. Then he completed his MA at the Near East University with the grade 4.00. İlksoy Aslım received his Phd title from Oulu University of Finland with the thesis “American Foreign Policy on Cyprus”.
İlksoy Aslım was a founding member of Güzelyurt Art Society that was founded in 1983. During the first years, he was the vice president of the society. Later he became the chair person of the society. He was also the founding member of Akdeniz Rüzgarı Society, Güzelyurt Development Society and Folk Art Charity. He was in the committee of directors of the first two societies.
Throughout his undergraduate education, he was the vice-chair person of the International Relations Department Club. In 2000, he attended the U.S. Congress as an intern. He participated Halki International Seminar which was held at Rhodes in 2003. In 2004, he participated a TESEV meeting at İstanbul. Again in 2004, he presented a lecture on “Political Culture of the Greek Cypriots” at “Nicosia Conference Centre”, southern Nicosia.
During the years 1995 and 1996 his articles were published at Siyah-Beyaz Newspaper of Turkey and between 1997 and 2001 at Ortam Newspaper. Presently, his articles are being published at a weekly journal, namely Gaile.
İlksoy Aslım is married and has two sons.
