Prof. Gamze MOCAN, MD

Professor Gamze Mocan, M.D. graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Ankara University (1974). Having achieved her medical specialty in Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine of Hacettepe University, Dr. Mocan was appointed as Professor of Pathology in 1992 at the same university.

Her main researches were on hepatitis B viral lesions of liver using immunohistochemical techniques at the Pathology Department of the Faculty of Medicine of Glasgow Western Infirmary University in the United Kingdom and Uropathology and Cytopathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in USA.

Having worked as the Chair of Cytopathology Unit of the Pathology Department of the Faculty of Medicine of Hacettepe University (1992-2008) and as the Educational Coordinator of the Faculty of Medicine for 11 years, Professor Mocan had been the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Zonguldak Karaelmas University (2003-2006), and at the same time she took place in the academic staff of the Pathology Department of the Faculty of Medicine of Hacettepe University.

She was the chairs of; Ankara Pathology Association (1993-1995), XII. National Pathology Symposium (1995), XII. National Pathology Congress (1996), XIV National Pathology Symposium (1998), Cytopathology Society as the founding president (2002-2004) and the delegates for; Turkey for European Federation of Cytology Societies (EFCS) (2001-2004) and the European Board of Pathology of European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS)(1996).Since 2003 she has been a member of the Bureau of the World Association of Society of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (WASPaLM) as Director-at- Large and led as the Chair of the XXIII, World Congress of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (WASPaLM), İstanbul (2003).She was elected as the President-elect for WASPaLM (2009-2011), presidency (2011-2013), past presidency (2013-2015).

She has been the founding Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Near East University in North Cyprus since October, 2008. She has been editored of medical books and has published many research articles especially on genitourinary pathology and cytopathology. She had the Medal of Honor of WASPaLM, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and Academy Medicine of Malaysia.
