Ali Malek was born in Karaagac village of Paphos in Cyprus on 11 July 1954. His father was a worker in Limni Copper Mine and his mother was a housewife. He completed his primary education in Karaagac. Then, he went to Poli Hürriyet Middle School. Later, he graduated from the Department of Science of Baf Kurtuluş High school. Then, he undertook his higher education at the Department of Industrial Engineering of Middle East Technical University and graduated in 1978. Subsequent to his graduation, he returned to the island and completed his military duty as a reserve officer in February 1980. He began his career life as an Industrial Engineer at the Ministry of Economy and Finance in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in March, 1980. Later, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and he went to Bradford University, United Kingdom where he completed his 4 month postgraduate education (Master’s programme) on “Project Planning and Appraisals”.
