Our department was established in 2007 within the body of NEU Faculty of Dentistry. Theoretical and clinical practices in 3rd, 4th and 5th years and also graduate and post graduate studies are carried out at our department. Our department has two clinics. Patient’s first examination is carried out by four different units at Oral Diagnosis clinic. The radiographic examinations are carried out at Radiology Clinic. In this clinic, there are 2 dental x-rays, 1 digital panoramic imaging device, 2 digital imaging devices (phosphor plate and CCD), 1 dental volumetric tomography device from which there are less than 10 in the whole world, 1 Medart Vistron CT injection system, medical monitor and various computer softwares are used for radiographic examination of the patients and for academic studies at Radiology Clinic.
The aim of the department is to educate knowledgeable and highly-skilled specialists who can successfully make the diagnosis and treatment plans of their patients, carry out and interpret the radiological techniques, and conduct research and interpret the results in the related field.
- Knowledge: to take medical history, perform an extra-oral and intra-oral examination, have knowledge of radiation, radiation damages and radiation protection, evaluate the systemic symptoms, elicit the vital symptoms and the reason of the pain, elicit the maxilla, sinus, salivary gland, arthrosis pathology and radiology, perform laboratory inspections and make diagnosis and the treatment plan of the patients, perform an implant implementation and a radiographic assessment, elicit the lesions on radio opaque, radiolucent and soft issue on bones.
- Skills: to run x-rays and automatic processors for radiograph, conduct the research methods.
- Attitude: to respect to the ethical values in research, comprehend and adopt the power of scientific methods, obey the patient’s right, exhibit honest and coherent attitude in human relations, follow the latest scientific and technological developments, understand the importance of lifelong self-learning.
The mission of the Department of Oral Diagnosis and the Radiology is to educate the pre-doctoral and post-doctoral dentistry students, auxiliary health personnel, exchange students, dentists and other medical personnel in oral diagnosis and radiology and to keep the oral diseases of patients at a minimum level in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Our department adopts chasing, developing and pioneering the discoveries in related fields to our subject and on the technological progresses and servicing on oral pathology, and, as a fundamental principle, offer the best possible health service for TRNC citizens.
