Assist. Prof. Dr. Erdoğan SARACOĞLU

Erdoğan Saracoğlu was born in 1946. He attended Küçük Kaymaklı Primary School. Then he graduated from Lefkoşa Türk Lisesi (Nicosia Turkish High School). His first poems were published in Halkın Sesi Gazetesi (Newspaper) on a page managed by Ersin Taşer.
Subsequent to his graduation, he published art and opinion magazine monthly, titled as “Yakın” with his fellow artists Oktay Öksüzoğlu and Osman Güvenir during 1965-1966. His poems, critics, essays and stories were published in this magazine. Furthermore, during 1967- 1968 he acted with Kemal Tunç, Üner Ulutuğ, Hatice Soğüt and Hilmi Özen in plays.
In 1972, he graduated from the Department of Language, History and Geography of Faculty of Ankara University. Later, he was awarded with a state scholarship for an internship certificate program as an “Archive Specialist” at the General Directorate of Prime Ministry Archive of the Republic of Turkey. Additionally, he pursued his Masters Degree at the Department of Turkish Language and his doctorate degree at the Department of New Turkish Literature.
During 1974-1976, he worked as a transcription and evaluation officer in the National Archive and Research Centre in Kyrenia. Then in 1976, he was assigned as a literature teacher to “Turk Maarif Kolej” and became the Head of Department of Turkish Language and Literature of this school in 1982. Later, he was appointed as the Head of Department of Culture of the Ministry of National Education and Culture in 1989. Then he left this position in 1993and became the Director of Press and Public Relations of Near East University. Since 2013, he has been the Head of Department of NEU Turkish Language and Literature.
He is married and has two daughters. He is a member of the Turkish Language Society Folklore Research Institute (Ankara). He joined many international seminars and conferences representing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). He presented a paper on folk literature and folklore of the Turkish Cypriot. He was awarded by a number of scientific studies: “1995 – Service Award for Folklore” by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Folk Art Association, “2000 – Turkish Folk Culture of Service Award” by Folklore of the Republic of Turkey Research Institution, “2006 – Science, Culture, Art Achievement Award” by Necati Özkan Foundation. He has four books related to areas of scientific expertise:
