The Panel titled as “Freedom and Rights of Press in the Media and the New Media Axis in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)” was held in Orange Hall at the Near East University Faculty of Communication building. It was pointed out that there was a high number of participants from the sectors of Law, Academics and Media.
According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the Panel was held with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University, Assoc. Prof Dr. Irfan S. Günsel as the Honorary President. It was stated that the Panel was held by the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema of Faculty of Communication of Near East University. Furthermore, the panel was held in two sessions titled as “Judicial Perspective” and “Ethical Perspective”.
Furthermore, it was emphasised that the panel was coordinated by the Head of Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap and Academic Member of the Near East University, Ayhan Dolunay. In the first session, Ombudsman Emine Dizdarlı, Chairman of the Bar Association, Lawyer Ünver Bedevi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap and Ayhan Dolunay spoke. The Session Moderator was Academic Member of Faculty of Communication Assist. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ufuk Çelik.
On the other hand, Head of Media Ethical Board Dr. Bekir Azgın, Head of Managing Board of Turkish Agency Emin Akkor and Head of Journalists’ Union Sami Özuslu and Academic
Member of NEU Faculty of Communication Assist. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özejder spoke at the second session.
It was added that the opening speech of the panel was made by Dean of Faculty of Communication of Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci, stating the significance of ethics, and also congratulated the 3rd May World Press Freedom Day.
