Get rid of your varicose veins without surgery with the Venaseal method!

With the Venaseal method, also known as biological bonding, it is possible to get rid of varicose veins without the need for anesthesia. Varicose veins, also known as vein enlargement, can become a bigger problem as they progress. In addition to deteriorating the aesthetic appearance, it is possible to get rid of varicose veins, which cause serious problems such as swelling, pain or cramps in the legs, infection, bleeding and formation of ulcers (wounds) on the skin, without surgery. Near East University Hospital Cardiovascular Surgery Department Specialist Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem says that they offer patients a comfortable recovery option with the Venaseal method, which is accepted as the most up-to-date and innovative varicose treatment in the world. Venaseal method, also known as biological bonding Venaseal, which is applied as the most up-to-date varicose treatment method in the world today, is performed with the use of a new product approved by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The basic material of the product, which has biological adhesive properties, is currently used as tissue adhesive in some surgeries of cardiovascular surgery. The venaseal method is applied by injecting biological adhesive into the varicose vein and closing the vein by gluing. Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem: “We are now benefiting from non-surgical innovative methods in the treatment of varicose veins.” “Although surgical treatment methods with surgery come to mind first when it comes to varicose treatment, non-surgical and robotic techniques used today have become new and increasingly popular treatment methods,” said Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem and pointed out that innovative methods are used in the treatment of varicose disease at the Near East University Hospital, and that the surgical method is applied in very few patients who are forced to. Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem explained the method of application of the Venaseal method; “This method is a procedure that must be performed under ultrasound guidance, like laser and radiofrequency methods. Before the procedure, the patient must be examined in detail with Doppler ultrasound and the varicose veins must be mapped. The treatment of the varicose vein is provided by injecting adhesive through the catheter path placed inside the varicose vein. Unlike other methods, the Venaseal method does not require any anesthesia. Very successful results are also obtained as an aesthetic varicose treatment method. There are no bruises and pain associated with the procedure after the application. The process usually takes 10-15 minutes. Although rare, the Venaseal method can be used in combination with other methods. Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem says that the Venaseal method is a more comfortable procedure than other varicose veins treatments. Prof. Dr. Özcem said, “There is no need for anesthesia for the Venessal method as it is carried out through simple but effective surgical methods. Compared to laser and radiofrequency applications, which are other advanced technology methods, less pain and bruising are experienced, and faster recovery is achieved. Again, when compared to classical methods, there is usually no need for bandages and compression stockings after the procedure.”

Near East University Faculty of Agriculture started a research project to determine how soil types affect agricultural productivity in urban agriculture practices and vegetable growing.

The increase in the urban population, the decrease in agricultural lands and the decrease in agricultural productivity make access to healthy food increasingly difficult. Urban agricultural practices including kitchen gardening, terrace gardening and roof gardening stand out as the most important alternatives to find solutions to this problem. The Food Engineering and Landscape Architecture departments of the Near East University Faculty of Agriculture, which was established a year ago, give priority to studies aimed at increasing productivity and product quality in urban agriculture in accordance with the requirements of the present needs. Determining rural agriculture, local agriculture, evaluation of local seeds, food health, permaculture and good agricultural practices as priority areas of study, Near East University Faculty of Agriculture has started a new research project on the effects of different soil types on vegetable cultivation. The project, carried out by Muhammed Adeel, a student of the Near East University Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Landscape Architecture, aims to lead the inhabitants of the island to grow quality agricultural products in small areas with urban agricultural practices and to facilitate access to agricultural products. Within the scope of the study, regular soil analyzes are carried out to control the nutrient richness of the growing medium applied with different soil types. Soil analyzes are carried out jointly with the Near East University and the Güzelyurt Soil Laboratory affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The project consists of three phases The project, which aims to determine how various soil types affect productivity in the production of various vegetables in urban farming practices, consists of three phases. It is observed how agricultural productivity changes in beds created using “simple soil”, “soil and manure mixture” and “soil mixture, farm manure mixture, peat and perlite”. While onion, lettuce and pepper are used as the main products within the scope of the project, the applications to be tried will be in duplicate. A number of parameters will be recorded for each application, such as the number of leaves, plant length, height, stem diameter and fruit weight. The data will be analyzed in accordance with these characteristics and which method gives the best results under the given conditions will be determined.

In cancer treatment, the HIPEC method, which can be applied in fully equipped high-level centers and combines surgery and hot chemotherapy, has been successfully applied for the first time in Cyprus at the Near East University Hospital!

A 65-year-old male patient, whose colon cancer recurred about 10 years ago and whose cancerous tumors spread to the entire abdomen and intra-abdominal organs, and did not respond to chemotherapy, was treated with the HIPEC method, which combines surgery and chemotherapy, at the Near East University Hospital. In advanced abdominal cancers, after the visible cancerous tumors are surgically removed, the remaining microscopic tumors are also destroyed by washing the entire inside of the abdomen with hot chemotherapy drugs heated to 42 degrees through the method that can be applied in a limited number of hospitals with competent staff and high level equipment. After the HIPEC surgery performed by Dr. Ahmet Soykurt and his team that lasted 4 hours at the Near East University Hospital, the treatment of the 65-year-old patient will continue at the Near East University Hospital. Microscopic tumors that spread into the abdomen are destroyed with HIPEC The HIPEC method, which is used in patients with advanced cancer that starts in the intra-abdominal organs and spreads to the entire abdomen and other intra-abdominal organs, is applied to patients who cannot respond to traditional oncology methods such as chemotherapy. The method that aims to extend the life span of the patient by increasing the quality of life is mostly applied in intra-abdominal cancers such as peritoneal cancers, appendix cancers, colon cancers, ovarian cancers and stomach cancers. Dr. Ahmet Soykurt: “We apply chemotherapeutic agents, which we heat up to 42 degrees with special devices, into the abdomen of the patient with a special device. The goal here is to destroy microscopic tumor cells.” Performing the operation, Dr. Ahmet Soykurt says that in the first stage of the HIPEC method, which can be performed in highly equipped centers around the world, all organs of the patient with cancer involvement in the abdomen are cleared of visible tumors. Dr. Ahmet Soykurt also said, “After making the abdomen as tumor-free as possible with surgical intervention, we apply chemotherapeutic agents, which we heat up to 42 degrees with special devices, into the patient’s abdomen with a special device. The aim here is to destroy microscopic tumor cells. We heat it up to 42 degrees for better penetration of chemotherapy drugs into the tissue.” Stating that they successfully applied the method to a 65-year-old patient for the first time in the TRNC, Dr. Soykurt said that the patient, who was kept under observation, will be taken to the normal service in a short time and will be followed up in the Near East University Hospital Oncology Service.
