Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts organizes two simultaneous exhibitions… Consisting of 50 Artworks, the “Turkmenistan and Tatarstan Artists’ Exhibition” will be opened by National Education and Culture Minister Cemal Özyiğit

“Turkmenistan and Tatarstan Artists’ Exhibition”, which consists of two distinguish exhibitions that feature a total of 50 artworks specially prepared for Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts is going to be opened by Cemal Özyiğit, Minister of National Education and Culture. The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the opening ceremony of the two distinct exhibitions will be held at the Exhibition Hall of the Near East University Hospital at 10:30 on Friday 26 April 2019. The “Turkmenistan and Tatarstan Artists’ Exhibition” will be open for visits from 08:00 to 17:00 on weekdays until 09 May 2019. Every Aspect of Turkmenistan Art of Painting will be exhibited… Consisting of 27 paintings created by 9 talented Turkmen painters, Turkmenistan Artists’ Exhibition will reflect all aspects of Turkmen art of painting and sections from the daily life in Turkmenistan. While Ogulgeldi Mamedova’s paintings depict the national elements taking place in Turkmen legends, Murad Khodzhakuliyev’s paintings illustrate romance with different colors and color combinations. Gulnaz Rozykulova contributes to the exhibition with works in which she demonstrates her passion in both historical monuments and jewelry while Ahmet Khallyev’s paintings depict historic military aspects. The paintings created by Aman Modiyev, one of the youngest painters of the group, depict the women’s motifs in nature, Gahryman Gochmyradov’s works illustrate compositions composed of different figures, Bayram Nuriev’s works reflect his inspirations from his own village, Abdylla Mammetberdiev’s works depict traditional miniatures and Chary Yazmyradov’s paintings illustrate poets, singers and women portraits. Tatarstan Culture will be reflected through works… The “Tatrstan Artists’ Exhibition” features 27 artworks created by 7 talented painters. Ilnur Siraziev’s portraits depicting people looking for the philosophy, Mahmut Vagapov’’ portraits depicting nature and interior design, Ruslan Kamidullin’s paintings depicting old cities, streets as a way of thinking, Gulnaz Adgamova’s works depicting birds with literalism, Rabis Salyakhov’s folkloric works, Aigul Kiyamova’s works depicting the culture and traditions of Tatar people, and Renat Gabassov’s various workouts will be the core of the exhibition.

Near East University ranked 3rd among Universities in Turkey

Near East University Academicians have published more than 1,200 scientific papers in journals scanned in international indexes such as Web of Science and Scopus, and based on the number of publications made by per academician, Near East University is ranked 3rd among the State and Foundation Universities in Turkey; and first among the universities in Cyprus. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, it was announced that the number of articles published per faculty member of Near East University in 2018 is 1.23, and the number of articles per full-time faculty member is 0.64. As a result, Near East University is ranked 3rd among the state and foundation universities in Turkey, and first among the universities in our country. Based on the number of publications scanned by Web of Science, the first 10 Universities in Turkey; including Near East University as 3rd is as follows: Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: “This Pride is Ours…” Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel congratulated the achieved success and added that the scientific publication and citation reports on the national and international publication performances placed the Near East University 3rd among the 10 state and foundation universities in Turkey; and currently the NEU is among Turkey’s top 10 research universities. In addition to the above Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel added that since the date of foundation, Near East University continued to progress on the path to be the centre of global information and that for 25 years, their motto was based on the “It is time to make a mark of the island on the continent” slogan. He emphasised that they were meticulously working towards their goal and by 2020, their aim was to be among the first 500 universities of the world with their research identity. Moreover, he stressed that scientific research was one of the most significant products of universities and scientists and pointed out that the Near East University academicians made more than 1.200 scientific publications in the academic year 2018 in journals scanned in international indexes such as the Web of Science and Scopus; both recognised worldwide. He added that based on the number of publications made by Near East University academicians, the NEU has been ranked third among the universities in Turkey and in fact first among the universities in Cyprus. He expressed that this achievement gave everyone at the Near East University well-deserved pride and joy. He said that the number of articles published in indexed journals were an indication of the most important criteria showing creativity, innovation, determination, cooperation, adherence to ethical values and academic success of universities. He thanked everyone contributing to this success achieved by the Near East University and emphasised that this pride was theirs as a whole. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, expressed that they were aware of the fact that it was not possible to capture the future without science, technology, research, innovation and most important of all, production. While continuing to contribute to the society in scientific and academic sense, they also had an “Entrepreneur University” understanding; contributing to the development of our region and our country via science and technology. He assured that the Near East University is to continue to work hard to be among the leading universities of the world. 3rd 153 Emergency Service Symposium “Basic and Advanced Life Support” was held at Near East University Hospital

Through the cooperation between Near East University Hospital and TR Emergency Medicine Specialists` Association, the 3rd 153 Emergency Service Symposium was held at Hall 4 of NEU Grand Library, to which numerous specialists from Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus attended, and the symposium was themed as “Innovations in Emergency”. The 3rd Emergency Service Symposium comprised issues related to Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support. It was stated that the symposium was held as two sessions, information and application and that the interest shown to the symposium was rather high. It was revealed that the symposium was a product of the cooperation between Near East University Hospital and TR Emergency Medicine Specialists` Association and it was titled as “Are you ready for the innovations in Emergency Service?” The Chairs of the Symposium were Prof. Dr. Başar Cander, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gül from TR Emergency Medicine Specialists` Association and Assist. Prof. Dr Emel Erkuş Sirkeci from Head of Department of Emergency Medicine of Near East University Hospital and the symposium was focused on innovative and updated technological developments, changing treatment protocols in emergency, innovations in resuscitation and non-invasive suturing methods. The symposium, which consisted of two panels, Specialist Doctor İpek Gülin Ağar shared information on changing treatment protocols in emergency; Specialist Doctor Koray Kadam shared innovations in resuscitation; and Specialist Doctor Elif Burcu Garda gave information about non-invasive suturation methods. In the second session of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Başar Cander provided details regarding basic life support, whereas Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gül shared theoretical and practical information on advance cardiac life support. Chief Physician Specialist Dr. Sevim Erkmen: “Successful emergency service is only possible with Emergency Medical Training and Permanent staff who work 24/7” Making a speech, Chief Physician of Near East University, Specialist Doctor Sevim Erkmen emphasised the significance of emergency service. She added that in order to offer successful emergency services, there was a need for emergency services in accordance with today’s emergency medicine, able to work 24/7 and also through trained and permanent medical staff. Furthermore, Specialist Doctor Sevim Erkmen stressed that starting from the to evaluate the admission of patients admitted to the emergency department, to performing the patient’s entry procedures, examination, examination, treatment, triage, observation, determination of the need for consultant physician, and identification of the processes such as hospitalization and referral and identification of those responsible, identification of problems that may endanger life that a complete implementation of the ongoing procedure at the right time and with the correct procedure until the timely treatment all had significant role in the success of emergency services offered. Therefore, she said that the most important part of the danger is the most intense. Such that emergency services were like the mirrors of hospitals and the health system offered. The quality of the services provided there was directly proportional to the development indicators of the institution. She said that for this reason, emergency medicine physicians should have advanced interventional treatment skills; such as surgical interventions, trauma resuscitation, advanced cardiac life support and advanced air management and the knowledge and skills of a wide range of specialization areas. Featuring 142 works of 61 Artists, the Exhibition titled “To Exist with Art “, which was organized by the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts in Memory of the Tenth Death Anniversary of the First Turkish Cypriot Painter Ismet Vehit Güney, will be opened by the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman

The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, which has played host various exhibitions since its establishment, is coming up with another significant exhibition titled “To Exist with Art” in memory of Ismet Vehit Güney, who is considered as the father of the Turkish Cypriot art of painting. Having been organized in memory of the tenth death anniversary of İsmet Vehit Güney, who had a great role not only in laying the foundations of the Turkish Cypriot art of painting but also in registering the social existence of Turkish Cypriots in the context of the contemporary civilization, the exhibition titled “To Exist With Art, which features 142 artworks of 61 artists, will be opened by the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman. The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the opening ceremony of the exhibition titled “To Exist With Art” will be realized at 09:30 on Thursday 25 April 2019 at the Exhibition Halls of Cyprus Art Center that located in the foyer area of Atatürk Culture and Congress Center (AKKM). “To Exist with Art” exhibition, which features 142 artworks covering all disciplines of plastic arts of 61 artists in Cyprus, will be open for visits from 10:00 to 16:00 on weekdays until 9 May 2019. The Designer of the Flag of the Republic of Cyprus… Ismet Vehit Güney, one of the cornerstones of the Turkish Cypriot art of painting, is best known as the designer of the modern flag of the Republic of Cyprus, the country’s coat of arms and the original Cyprus lira. Ismet Vehit’s design of the flag for the young Republic of Cyprus was a simple drawing on white background with a golden Cyprus map and with two green olive branches symbolizing peace between the two communities of the island. Who is Ismet V. Güney? Ismet Vehit Güney, one of the doyens of Turkish Cypriot art of painting, was born in 1923 in Limassol, Cyprus. He began painting while he was a student in high school. In 1946, Güney became the first Turkish Cypriot painter to open a solo art exhibition. He worked as an art and art history teacher at Lefkoşa Türk Lisesi from 1948 to 1977. In 1967, a scholarship enabled him to study at Belfast Queen’s University’s Stranmills College. In 1985, he was awarded with TRNC Ministry of Culture State Award. In 1986 he had a grand retrospective exhibition in Nicosia and he was deemed worthy for Culture Art Service Award by TRNC Government. He was the winner of many awards such as Art Achievement Award, Service Honor Award, Artist of the Year Award and Ministry of National Education State Award. In addition to painting, he worked in various fields including cartoon, advertising, graphics, photography, serigraphy and color-separation. He also wrote poems and stories. He died on June 23, 2009, at the age of 85.

Developments in the Field of Dentistry and Current Treatment Approaches were told to Students at Near East University

A conference titled “Digital Dentistry: New Age” and Full Crowns Against Adhesion Restorations” including topics such as thecurrent approaches, developments, new techniques, different types of restoration in the field of digital dentistry was given at the Near East University Faculty of Dentistry, as a continuation of periodic dentistry activities. According to a statement from the Near East University Press and Public Relations Department, the conference was held in two sessions at the Faculty of Dentistry and Prof. Dr. Arun Nayyar from the Georgia Medical College Faculty of Dentistry attended to the conference. Headings on Automation of Prosthetic Restorations Production were discussed… In the presentation, it was pointed out that the development of technology in the last 20 years, especially the computer-aided design and production systems have affected developments in dentistry and as these systems have led to revolutions in the field of dentistry, the ‘Digital dentistry’ concept stood out. It was emphasized that these systems, which have provided many functional advantages for dentists and prosthesis technicians, enable long-term prosthetic treatments along with the materials and techniques used. Dr. Suat İ. Günsel awarded with “True Patriot” Gold Medal

Azerbaijan Dede Qorqud Foundation presented the “True Patriot” Gold Medal Award to Founding Rector of Near East University, Dr. Suat İ.Günsel. The Founding Rector of the Near East University Dr. Suat Günsel was presented the “True Patriot” Gold Medal Award by the Azerbaijan Dede Qorqud Foundation due to his outstanding works regarding the promotion of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) all over the world, his world standard efforts in the fields of education, health, culture and art in the TRNC, and his significant work and services in developing the relationship between the TRNC and the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was stated that the “True Patriot” Gold Medal was jointly presented to Dr. Suat Günsel by the Chair of the Azerbaijan Dede Qorqud Foundation, who is also the Chief Editor of the Azerbaijan International Journal, Prof. Eldar ismailov and by the Foundation Representative, who is in charge of Turkey and the TRNC, Prof.Dr. Refik Aziz. Providing further details, it was pointed out that the “True Patriot” Gold Medal presentation ceremony was held at the Rectorate Building of the Near East University and that the Vice Rectors of Near East University Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Sadıkoğlu, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Assoc. On the other hand, it was stated that in his speech, Dr. Suat Günsel provided detaisl regarding the developments achieved in the fields of education, health, culture and art at the Near East University and explained the current status reached. Moreover, he pointed out that although it has only been 8 months since the date of groundbreaking of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, nearly 7 thousand artworks representing the Turkic world were collected and hundreds of Turkish painters were offered opportunities to produce their art at the Near East University. Additionally, he emphasised the importance of education, health, culture and art for any society; and the importance of culture and art in the development of societies. Dr. Suat Günsel ended his words by stressing that he was honoured to be deemed worthy of being awarded the “True Patriot” Gold Award and thanked the Azerbaijan Dede Qorqud Foundation.

They will isolate DNA in the developed world-class laboratories of the Near East University, work on genetics, and realize their own dreams with computers and robots in the innovation and technology unit. Near East University hosted the International Conference on Interdisciplinary Educational Reflections 2019

Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education and Educational Sciences jointly organised a conference titled as International Conference on Interdisciplinary Educational Reflections which was hosted by Near East University. Dr. Ana Perez-Escoda provided details on being a digital citizen in the European system and sharing learning environments in the digital age. On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yel and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hilmi Çolakoğlu pointed out the need for reflections and research in the field of education. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt: “Conferences Hold an Important Place in Science Production and Sharing in Universities …” It was expressed that subsequent to a minute’s silence and the national anthem, the opening speech was made by the Vice Rector of Near East University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt who stated that as a new generation university, the importance of new learning environments and development of teachers in new learning styles were increasing day by day. Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Mirici: “ICIER 2020 will again be held at our University in March, 2019…” In his speech, Dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Mirici expressed details on the aim, significance and scope of the ICIER conference. Furthermore, he stated that Atatürk Faculty of Education and Educational Sciences Institute jointly initiated a rather fruitful and significant conference series. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Mirici shared his thoughts and feelings regarding the conference and emphasised that although it was the first of the conference series to follow, more than hundred oral and presentations were involved. He said that they were rather pleased that ICIER 2019 was completed with success and pointed out that after evaluations of the referees, all the presentations are to be published, as full-texts, primarily in Near East University Journal of Education (NEUJE) and other various scientific journals. Additionally, he said that ICIER 2020 is once again to be hosted by Near East University in March, 2020. In fact, due to positive feedbacks, they were expecting a higher number of participants from many different countries. Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay: “Research has become a basic tool today and thinking has replaced memorization! ” In her speech, Head of Educational Sciences Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay Aksal expressed that in the world of today, thinking began where memorisation ended, and that research had become a basic tool. Moreover, on the path to achieving quality in higher education, internationalisation, research, project, education, training and social responsibility all gained significance via the conferences held. Prof. Dr. Altınay added that although Educational Sciences Institute began its educational services in 2000, it gave graduates who are pioneers and firsts in both science and service production. She said that on behalf of the Educational Sciences Institute, the education journal was introduced via this first conference within the scope of their institute strategic plan. Invitations were made for the Conference to be held in 2020… Conference Chairs Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Mirici and Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay stated that ICIER 2019 was also held as a means to promote the journal jointly initiated by Atatürk Faculty of Education and Educational Sciences Institute, Near East University Online Journal of Education (NEUJE). He added that the first issue of the journal has been published and pointed out that the conference played an important role in contributing to academic development. Finally, the entire educational community was invited to participate in the ICIER 2020.

Near East University Faculty of Education prepared a video on “Child Neglect and Abuse”

As part of their Social Service Applied module, 4th year students of Department of Psychological Counselling and Guidance of Atatürk Faculty of Education of Near East University prepared a video on “Child neglect and abuse”. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the video was prepared with the help of Specialist Yasemin Sorakın to raise awareness on emotional neglect and abuse which children encounter. The fact that any type of neglect and/or abuse left permanent damage in a child was emphasised… Providing further details, it was pointed out that the scenario of the video was prepared in coordination with the NEU Faculty of Communication. Moreover, Academic Member of the Department of Psychological Counselling and Guidance Yasemin Sorakın made a statement and expressed that high interest was shown to the video. She emphasised that any type of neglect and/or abuse left permanent damage. In addition to physical traces, she stressed that child neglect and abuse left lasting emotional defects.

Near East University, Atatürk Faculty of Education, Head of Department of Fine Arts Teaching Assist. Prof. Dr. Fatma Miralay represented Near East University at the “International Memorial Money Designs Exhibition” at Hacettepe University with the coin specific to Salamis Antique City. According to the information given by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, as part of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Hacettepe University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fatma Miralay participated in the International Memorial Money Design Exhibition held at the Ahmet Göğüş Art Gallery under the patronage of the Department of Graphic Design of Hacettepe University, and attracted great attention with the coin design specific to Salamis Ancient City. Assist. Prof. Dr. Miralay, stating that she has conducted a study through the corporate identity of the Near East University, she designed a coin specific to Salamis Ancient City within the scope of preservation and transformation of cultural heritage. Regarding the event, Miralay said that special coin designs are carried out in order to commemorate important historical periods, celebrations, important awards used to introduce countries around the world, statesmen who have contributed to the founding of states, scientists who have made significant inventions and cultural heritage, and so on. ??
