Near East University Hospital has been successfully represented by the Department of Cardiology at the International Congress on Update of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery; a congress annually held to provide an opportunity to discuss and share innovations and developments in the field. Near East College Hospital Cardiology Specialists took many responsibilities at the Congress… It was stated that this year, the 14th International Update in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery (UCCVS) was held on 5-8 April, 2018 in Antalya Turkey and surgeons from 32 different countries attended the congress. Furthermore, the UCCVS was enriched by the Valve Summit, International Forum of Arrhythmias, Interventional Cardiology Mediterranean Meeting, Pulmonary Hyoertension Summit, Heart Failure Summit, Hypertension Summit and Adult Congenital Heart Summit. Additionally, the American Heart Association, Heart Rhythm Society and many other international scientific bodies attended the congress. It was expressed that the Near East University Hospital was represented by the Cardiologists of the hospital and they gave verbal and written presentations regarding the works Head of Neu Department of Cardiology Prof. Dr. Hamza Duygu was the Chair of a session of the congress and also he was a spokesperson of two other sessions. Moreover, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Levent Cerit acted as the Chair of a session of the congress and has also acted as a spokesperson in another session. Additionally, Specialist Doctor Belma Taşel’s responsibility at the congress was to make a presentation. It is the only international platform which brings cardiovascular surgeons together… The papers presented and accepted at the congress are published in prestigious publications such as the E-Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine and American Journal of Cardiology. Prof. Dr. Levent Cerit and Specialist Doctor Belma Taşel, informed the participants which came from 32 different countries around the world about a patient with serious coronary artery and aortic stenosis, and a rare incident where a minimally invasive surgical procedure was applied, TAVI, which repairs the valve without removing the old, damaged valve. (Instead it wedges a replacement valve into the aortic valve’s place).

Near East University Sports Club released that Near East University would face Dynamo Kursk at Sopron Novomatic Arena on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at 18:00. The match will be broadcasted live on www. fiba.com/youtube and BRT 1. ZaferKalaycıoğlu: “Having made the Final Four in Our rookie season, We Have Achieved to be Amongst the Best Four Teams of Europe” Evaluating the third place game that they would play with Dynamo Kursk, Near East University Women’s Basketball Team Head Coach ZaferKalaycıoğlu stated that they would take the court for a tough match versus a team that dominated the EuroLeague.Underlining that Dynamo Kursk had an amazing winning streak of 34 games that brought them to Final Four as an undefeated team, Kalaycıoğlu stated that Kursk as a team that dominated the EuroLeague missed it out the Final. “We also missed it out the Final in our rookie year. Our defeat in the semi-final against Sopron doesn’t change the fact that we are amongst the best four teams in Europe. I congratulate Sopron for their win. Final Chance Lost in Last Second … Near East University: 65 – Sopron Basket: 68

Near East University Women’s Basketball Team was defeated by Sopron Basket with a score of 68-65 in the FIBA Women’s Euroleague Final Four in Sopron, Hungary. With this score, losing the chance for the final, Near East University will be rival to Russia’s Dynamo Kursk team for the third place of Final Four on Sunday (April 22nd). In Final Four, UMMC Ekaterinburg team and Sopron Basketball will challenge to each other for the 2017-2018 championship of the Euroleauge. According to the information given by the Near East University Sports Club, the game played at the Novamatic Arena included Courtney Vandersloot, Kayla McBride, Sandrine Gruda, Jantel Lavender and Elin Eldebrink from Near East University. Match periods ended with scores of 19-12, 40-30, 56-46 and 68-65. Yvonne Turner became the top scorer in the game with 19 points. The first basket of the game came from Courtney Vandersloot of NEU team whic started the offense. Sopron Basket was able to find his first score only after the first minute from beginning the match. Near East University made scores with Elin Eldebrink, Kayla McBride scored 7-4 in the first three minutes. Sopron Basket closed the first period ahead 12-19. The first minute of the second period passed with a score of 21-14. Near East University making a pressure on its rival and increasing the effectiveness of the match, made made score 21-17 at 7.49 hours of the second period, and lowered the gap to 4 points with its opponent. The last 4 minutes in the period was entered with a score of 36-22 Sopron Basket ahead. The first period of the match was completed with a score of 40 – 30, Sopron Basket ahead. Through cooperation with Near East University, the 64th Mid-Year Meeting of International Association of Dental Students has been held

The 64th Mid-Year Meeting of International Association of Dental Students (64 IADS MYM) has been held through cooperation with Near East University, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The IADS is known as an association which brings more than 200 thousand dentistry students together; aiming to share international projects and while making scientific developments in the field of dentistry via lectures and workshops. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of near East University, dental students from many different countries around the world were brought together at Merit Park Hotel and the 64th Mid-Year Meeting of international Association of Dental Students was realised with a total of 156 participants from 23 different countries. Furthermore, upon completion of the congress, the membership of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was raised from a local membership to full membership. It was pointed out that the opening ceremony and welcome cocktail of the congress, which was completed over two days, was held at Near East University Museum of Classical and Sports Cars. Moreover, it was stated that Dean of Faculty of dentistry, Prof. Dr. Mutahhar Ulusoy; Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şalıdağ; Chair of Congress and Research Member of the Department of Pedodontics of Faculty of Dentistry Dt. Ferdiye Küçük and President of International Association of Dental Students Andrey Baltaev each made a speech at the opening ceremony. It was stated that the 64 IADS MYM included speeches and the general meeting among members participating from different countries… It was stated that the congress, 64 IADS MYM , was held at Merit Park Hotel and on its first day, a general meeting was held among representatives coming from different countries around the world. Furthermore, it was stated that the meeting was held as scientific programs; where several speeches were made. Additionally, a mini dental Olympic competition was held. Finally, on the last day of the 64 IADS MYM , the participants were taken on a touristic tour around the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Speaking about the meeting, IADS General Secretary Natália Savková said, “The local organising committee of the 64thIADS MYM, Northern Cyprus 2018, has done an incredible job. They have proven that anything is possible! Despite the amount of work they had on their shoulders and challenges they had to face, they have made sure the meeting will never be forgotten by its participants.” Students’ hand skills and theoretical knowledge were tested… A Mini Dental Olympic competition was held to evaluate the students’ hand skills and theoretical knowledge. It was revealed that the competition had a prize and a total of 30 students participated in 10 different groups. As a result of the competition, Near East University students received 1st and 3rd prize. Northern Cyprus Dental Students Association became a full member to International Association of Dental Students (IADS)… At the end of the congress, the International Association of Dental Students Managing Board held a meeting together and resultantly, NEU was awarded full membership to IADS due to the successful congress.

KTMMOB – IMO and Near East University signs a Cooperation Protocol

Collaboration Ranging as Far as We Dream The Chamber of Civil Engineers (İMO) affiliated to the Union of Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB) has signed a protocol with Near East University in order to carry out joint work and enhance the cooperation between the parties. The signing ceremony of the protocol took place at the Chamber of Civil Engineers of the Union of Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects. Near East University Department of Civil Engineering Chairman Professor Hüseyin Gökçekuş and KTMMOB Chairperson Seran Aysal signed the protocol on behalf of their parties. According to the info released by the Directorate of Press & Public Relations Office, the protocol signing ceremony was realized with the participation of the members of KTMMOB Board of Directors and Faculty members of Near East University. It was released that the protocol set terms and provision for a strong collaboration on scientific, social, academic, professional and educational issues between the parties. Seran Aysal “Quality in engineering education programs could be ensured through the accreditation process that based on certifying the competence”. In his remarks following the signing ceremony UCCTEA Chairperson Seran Aysal touched upon the rapidly growing number of universities in our country and underlined that quality education was much more important than the number of universities. He highlighted that quality in engineering education programs could be ensured through the accreditation process that based on certifying the competence. Aysal: “Accreditation is the indicator of both national and international high respectability” Underlining that accreditations were indicators of both national and international high respectability, Aysal expressed his satisfaction that the Germany based ASIIN (“Accreditation Agency Specialized in Accrediting Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, the Natural Sciences and Mathematics”) had accredited the undergraduate and graduate programs offered by NEU Department of Civil Engineering. He drew attention that the ASIIN seal of quality was confirmation that all the requirements and quality characteristics of undergraduate and graduate degree programs were met, and thus it had the effect of enhancing the degrees awarded in terms of the international recognition accorded them. Seran Aysal ended his remarks by stating that the students studying at Near East University Department of Civil Engineering could become a “student member” of the chamber and thus they could contribute to their scientific studies and the resolutions of their educational challenges. Near East University completes the Season of the Turkish Women’s Basketball League at the Top…Hatay BŞB: 65 – Near East University: 68

Near East University continued their own perfect record as the lone victors by defeating Hatay BŞB 65-68 on their ground. Followed up last week’s victory versus Adana ASKİ, Near East University secured their top position in the league by defeating their follower Hatay BŞB on the last gameday of the regular season. The last gameday of the Turkish Women’s Basketball Super League Regular Season was the scene of a thrilling game between Hatay BŞB and Near East University at Antakya Sport Saloon. Near East University needed to win to secure the first spot in the league and have the home advantage for the Play Offs. The game promised to be a breathtaking one. The game lived up to the expectations when the two teams clashed at Antakya Sport Saloon on Saturday. Near East University Faculty of Architecture attended Arch + Design Summit 2018

The Near East University Faculty of Architecture was represented at the summit of the innovative participatory Arch + Design Summit 2018, ‘Innovative Approaches in Architecture and Design’, organized by the Architectural Activity Center and bringing together renowned architects, interior architects, designers and other creative industry professionals. According to the information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, there are many panels held at the Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar Congress and Exhibition Center during two days at the summit and Faculty of Architecture students and internationally successful professionals in architecture and design attended the conference, and found the opportunity to watch the Turkey’s leading architectural firms’ innovative projects and products by designers. Many well-known designers came together at the Design Summit At the Design Summit, presentations of panel designers, professors, projects and experiences shared by many renowned designers like Bahadır Kul, Gül Güven, Hakan Habif, Ercan Cinar, Carlos Tincar, Boran Ekinci, Sezgin Aksu, Safak Çak and Ahmet Burçin Gürbüz. There was a chance to watch the narrations, as well. At the summit, issues such as “Beyond Disciplines in Spatial Design”, “What Do Architects Say? The Place of the Student in Architecture “,” Innovative Approaches in the Design of Health Care ” were discussed. Arch + Design Summit 2018 ended with participation of 60 Speakers, 40 Sessions, 4 Panels, 10 Workshops, 2 Exhibitions and 1 World Record.

A Scientific Contribution to Architecture…2nd Journal of Near Architecture has been published

The second edition of the peer-reviewed journal of Near East University Faculty of Architecture has been published. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the journal consists of 101 pages and comprises articles of recent research in architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture. Furthermore, the journal provides insights to issues related to the field and possible solutions; and a total of 8 different scientific articles included, which have been written by both the academicians of Near East University and academicians from Turkey. It was pointed out that the journal is published twice a year, in April and in October, in both English and Turkish. Additionally, the editor of the journal is Academic Member of NEU Faculty of Architecture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zihni Türkan and the vice editor of the journal is Academic Member of NEU Faculty of Architecture Assist Prof. Dr. Buket Asilsoy.
