Near East University Faculty of Communication presents “Journey to the Roots” Documentary

Gala show of the documentary film project titled “Journey to the Roots” of which the production stage carried out by contributions of Faculty of Communication as a project partner, was realized. The documentary, directed by Sevinç Çor Baloglu, was broadcasted in the previous at NEU Faculty of Communication. The event was attended by the Vice President of Media Research and Cultural Communication Association (MAKİ), Bülent Önder; Dean of Bahcesehir University Faculty of Communication, Prof. Kemal H. Suher and the people interested in the documentary. The project carried out jointly by two universities under the leadership of MAKI. According to the press information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci, Vice Dean of Faculty of Communication, who expressed her gratitude to the audience and to those who contributed to realization of the event, stated that they were much happy to work as a partner with Bahçeşehir University in the project. This project, which was carried out jointly by two universities, was conducted under the leadership of MAKİ. Keçeci also emphasized that they were proud to take part as the Faculty of Communication of NEU in the project which was jointly conducted by two universities and expressed her gratitude to director Sevinç Cor Baloglu, producer Su Baloglu and the director of photography Ibrahim Çaltı. Journeys to the Cultural Roots of Two University Students Transformed to the White Curtain. The documentary, which is supported by T.C Prime Ministry Directorate of Foreign Turks and Relative Communities and prepared jointly by Faculty of Communication of Near East University and Faculty of Communicatin of Bahcesehir University conveys the journey that two university students have made to their cultural roots. The documentary film in which the universities are involved in the production, shooting and research process can be watched on TRT and BRTK. The documentary, which also includes interviews with Cypriots who have information about family roots in the towns and villages of Northern Cyprus, focuses on the research of two university students.

The 22nd National Cancer Congress hosted by the Turkish Radiation Oncology Association, the Turkish Pediatric Oncology Group and the Turkish Medical Oncology Association in Antalya

Presentations were held by expert speakers throughout the congress, where a large number of scientific workshops were also held at five day-long meetings, and the latest developments in cancer diagnosis and treatment were shared, as well. According to the press information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, Prof. Dr. Meltem Nalca Andrieu, Chair of NEU Hospital Department of Radiology Oncology, took place in the evaluation board of the posters related to breast cancers and gastrointestinal system cancers, as well as taking up the role of chair of the “Glioblastome Treatment” panel. In the Congress, patients suffering from glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, were found to be frequently loose their lives due to the relapsing tumors, though most patients have the long survival periods achieved through simultaneous radiotherapy and chemotherapy applications following the surgery. The panel, through which the second series of radiation therapy that can be applied in cases of relapse and the medicines were discussed in detail, raised a lot of interest among the participants.

Near East University Faculty of Architecture commemorated 25th Foundation Year with Event Dedicated to Architect Sinan

Commemoration event realized by the Faculty of Architecture to commemorate the legendary architect Mimar Sinan at the Hall 4 of the Grand Library. According to the press information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, the event held within the framework of the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Architecture, which started with the opening speech of Dr. Kozan Uzunoğl, Head of Department of Architecture. In his speech, Dr. Kozan Uzunoğlu emphasized that Mimar Sinan was not only a very important figure in architecture history throughout the geography of Turkey but also a very important architect who was very well known and exemplified in the world. Dr. Uzunoğlu said in his speech that they desire to realize commemoration events or commemoration day for Mimar Sinan every year, and expressed his gratitute to Dr. Havva Arslangazi Uzunahmet, Deputy Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zihni Turkan for his contributions, and to all who contributed in realization of the event. Dr. Uzunoğlu also thanked Project 3 students who contributed to the project exhibition of “Dikmen Municipality Service Building and City Square”, who will also receive the participation certificates in this activity, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Enis Faik Arcan, the project manager, and lecturer Gökhan Özdemir.

Having won the match played against Istanbul University at the Women’s Basketball League of Turkey, Near East University has shifted up to the play-off semi finals and has played a match against Beşiktaş. According to the Press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the first match of the play-off semi-finals was played against Beşiktaş on Saturday 29th April 2017, in Istanbul Caferağa Sports Hall. It was pointed out that Women’s Basketball Team of Near East University will be playing against three teams; including Beşiktaş, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe and the team to get a total of 3 triumphs will be shifting up to finals. Near East University represented at 9th Computer Supported Education Conference in Porto

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altinay, Director of Educational Sciences Institute and faculty member of Atatürk Education Faculty, Near East University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay, Director of Center for Social Research and Development under Center of Excellence, Deputy Dean of Atatürk Education Faculty, Asst. Prof. Dr. Behçet Öznacar, Lecturer of School of Tourism and Hospitality Higher Education Assist. Prof. Dr. Nesrin Bahçelerli, Head of Atatürk Education Faculty Education Management Department and Vice Rector of Girne University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökmen Dagli represented Near East University and Girne University at the 9th Computer Supported Education Conference in Porto. According to the information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, studies of members of Near East University and Kyrenia University have been reportedly accepted to be included in the papers scanned by Springer and the scopus.

Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy becomes the only PCN accredited Faculty in Cyprus

The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) officials visited the Near East University earlier this month to evaluate the standards of the Faculty of Pharmacy. Under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Health their purpose was to check the regulation and control of practice of Pharmacy, determine the professional standards and secure the establishment and maintenance of registration of Pharmacists. Laboratories, quality of staff, the curriculum, Near East University Hospital and the aesthetic structure of the university were evaluated. The PCN kindly organized a short seminar directed to all Nigerian Pharmacy students in the TRNC informing and answering questions related to the practice of Pharmacy in Nigeria. Upon completing the relative assessments Near East University is glad to announce the Faculty of Pharmacy officially accredited by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria. In this respect, Near East University is the only university in Cyprus to receive this attestation.

The research carried out by Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul, Head of Department of History Teaching under Atatürk Education Faculty, and Specialist Gülcan Faika, PhD student from Department of History Teaching, and titled “Content Analysis of Prehistoric Ages Units in Cyprus History Course Books used in the national education system of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was published in the Journal of History Culture and Art Research (Volume 6, Issue 2 (2017)) indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI).

Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Club puts business and stock market under scope

The Student Club of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of the Near East University organized a conference entitled “Business Establishment and Stock Exchange”, which was attended by British businessman James Patterson as an invited speaker.
