World Otomotive Conference was realized under the sponsorship of the domestic car GÜNSEL

427 participants coming from different countries came together at the World Otomotive Conference that held in Istanbul under the sponsorship of TRNC’S first domestic car GÜNSEL. This year the 3rd World Otomotive Conference (WAC 2016) took place in Istanbul-Turkey on 29-30 November. WAC 2016 provided platform for 427 attendees from all around the world to exchange ideas and learn about the latest trends and technologies regarding automotive industry. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, Sertel Tanta, person in charge for foreign affairs regarding GÜNSEL, touched upon the significance of realizing WAC 2016 under GÜNSEL’s sponsorship and expressed his views regarding the event: “WAC 2016 provided opportunity for us to get the most up-to-date information relevant to automotive industry and to develop positive conducts with executives of the automotive supplier industry that we work collaboratively. This event constitutes a significant step towards making our dreams true. Electric vehicle technology will soon be a part of daily life…. Tanta also touched upon the future of electric vehicles. “The positive feedback that we received throughout the conference has shown us once again that electric vehicle technology will be a art of everyday life sooner than expected. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel: The factory’s foundation will be laid on 16 December in TRNC….. Delivering information regarding the issue, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan underlined that the foundation of the automobile factory, which will produce TRNC’s first domestic car GÜNSEL, would be laid on 16 December, 2016. Pointing out that GÜNSEL was scheduled to be on the roads within a year, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Günsel underlined that they would realize mass production within two years. “We attach a special importance on participating in international events in order to show the point that achieved by TRNC in the fields of science, economy, innovation and technology. GÜNSEL will continue to be a symbol and a source of pride of our country in the activities to be held all around the world” said he.

Dr. Suat I. Günsel receives Honorary PhD from Southern Federal University of Russia

Dr. Suat İ.Günsel went to Rostov-on- Don as the special guest of Rector of Southern Feral University, Prof. Imran Gurreviçin due to the 25th anniversary celebrations of the University. . It was revealed that the 25th anniversary celebration ceremony of Southern Feral University was held at the State Theatre Building of Rostov-on-Don and that a total of 1000 people including the Rectors of more than 20 universities; Governor of Rostov-on-Don which has a population of almost 5 million; Politicians; Academic Members and students. Furthermore, it was stated that Dr. Suat İ.Günsel was presented an Honorary PhD by the Southern Feral University of Rostov-on- Don due to his valuable contributions in more than 20 different fields as part of the previously signed cooperation protocol between the Near East University and Southern Federal University. It was also stated that the Founding Rector of Near East University, Dr. Suat İ.Günsel, delivered a speech as he received his Honorary PhD and that his speech was translated into Russian, impressing the guests. In his speech, Dr. Suat I. Günsel stated that he knew the difficulties and the honour of establishing a University. He added that the state that the Southern Federal University reached within a quarter of a century was highly admirable. Furthermore, he explained that he perceived a university like a loom of the public. He emphasised the significance of education and health for any community and that they had established the ‘roots’ of Near East University in Northern Cyprus in 1988. Moreover, he stressed that currently the NEU has 30 thousand students from 110 different countries; that the University had 18 faculties and a total of 180 departments. Furthermore, he stated that Cyprus was a small island and just as they are always pleased to cooperate with motherland Turkey, they were also very pleased to cooperate with a big country such as the Russian Federation. Dr.Suat İ.Günsel: “I do not boast with what I have done but with achievements yet to be accomplished!” Addressing the students, Dr. Suat I. Günsel expressed that throughout his life he had always chased his dreams and is continuing to do so. He said that he did not boast with what he had done but he boasted with achievements he was yet to accomplished. He added that he did not others write his story and that instead he wrote it himself. Furthermore, he prioritised unity and inveterateness. He further expressed that he had always admired continental people since he himself was an islander; and for this reason he adopted a slogan stating that it was important to live on an island as a continental. He ended his words greeting the audience on behalf of himself and Near East University and congratulated the 25th anniversary of the University. He advised the students to be proud of their University. Subsequent to the speech, Rector of Southern Federal University, Prof. Dr.Imran Gurreviçin presented the Honorary PhD Certificate to Founding Rector of Near East University, Dr.Suat İ.Günsel. It was revealed that the Founding Rector of Near East University Dr. Suat İ.Günsel was being accompanied by Vice Rector of NEU Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Sadıkoğlu during his visit to Rostov-on-Don.

Gülgün Serdar made a donation to the Near East University National History Museum

One of the most valuable members of the Cyprus Turkish educators, retired teacher and researcher Gülgün Serdar, donated valuable documents to National History Museum which was established under the body of Near East University. The documents were expressed to be regarding social and political history and education in Cyprus. According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Gülgün Serdar donated valuable documents to National History Museum; established by the Near East University via a ceremony. The documents related to social and political history and education in Cyprus were presented to the Head of Scientific Board of National History Museum, Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul by Gülgün Serdar. Diplomas, Documents and Photographs from the 1900’s will now be available in the archive of the National History Museum… It was pointed out that there were diploma samples of Gülgün Serdar’s father from 1919, certificates, report cards and congratulation letters of various years from the British Governor of the period. One other valuable donated document is an immigration certificate given to Mr Ahmet, given to Turkish Cypriots subsequent to Treaty of Lozan. Furthermore, there are many vivid photographs reflecting those years. Moreover, there are documents belonging to Hatice A. Refik, Gülgün Serdar’s mother, such as various documents of education and social life, photographs and cards. In addition to the above, there are reports, certificates of different successes and cards of congratulations regarding the National struggle in Cyprus.

Near East University has fixed the foreign currencies by lowering the exchange rates

By taking into consideration the recent fluctuations in currency that lead to economic exposure due to the gradual rise in foreign exchange volatility and currency depreciation in Turkish Lira, Near East University has announced that the university would fix the rates by lowering the exchange rates for school fees that charged in Euro and Pound (Sterling). According to the press info released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, the Rectorate has evaluated the exposure to gradual exchange rate fluctuations and concluded to fix the foreign currencies by lowering the exchange rates till the end of the academic year in order to prevent parents from being affected financially by the appreciation of foreign currencies versus Turkish Lira. 3.65 TL for 1 Euro and 4.50 TL for 1 Pound are the fixed exchange rates till the end of the academic yearo In the press statement, it was highlighted that the exchange rates of Euro and Pound were lowered and fixed so as to €1=3.65TL and £1 = 4.50 TL. It was noted the fixed exchange rate for pound (£) would be valid for fees charged by Near East College, Near East Primary School and Near East Preschool, and the fixed rate for Euro (€) would be valid for fees charged by the university. In this hard time, we all have to act in self-sacrifice for the future of our country, our economy and our children. So far, it has been our greatest priority to provide all possibilities for our students to focus on education without experiencing any economic disadvantages. We made a score difference… Near East University: 83- Olympiacos: 63

Competing in the Women’s Basketball Group D of the EuroCup, Near East University has won a triumph over Olympiacos, a team from Greece, at the game which was played in the fourth week of the league. The game ended with a score difference of 83-63; which has led Near East University to assure leadership in the EuroCup. Furthermore, it was revealed that so far Near East University had won the three games out of the three matches played. Moreover, winning the game against Olympiacos (as a team which had two triumphs) carried Near East University to the leadership of the Group D.
