The final stage of works towards manufacturing the first native automobile of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is being evaluated on 9 October, 2016

Department of Automotive Engineering along with Research and Development (R&D) teams of the Near East University Innovation and Information Technologies Center has reached the final stage of producing TRNC’s first native automobile. According to the press info released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, information regarding the final stage of works towards manufacturing TRNC’s first native automobile, which will be the product of eight years lasting work, will be shared with media members through a press conference at the Near East University at 11:00 on Sunday; 9 October, 2016 The media members will be provided with detailed information concerned with the process, design, technical equipment and features of the automobile to be produced by the Near East University. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: “We will place our name among countries that manufacture automobiles…..” Touching upon the significance of producing a native automobile in TRNC, Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel underlined NEU’s commitment of exerting efforts towards launching a national trademark and paving the way for TRNC towards becoming a country that produces and develops technology. “At the press conference that will be held at 11:00 on Sunday, 9 October, 2016, we will provide the press members and the public with detailed information relevant to the final phase of the works towards manufacturing TRNC’s first native automobile, its design and technical features. Besides, we will share information regarding the automobile factory to be established. TRNC’s first native automobile will be the product of devoted efforts of NEU Department of Automotive Engineering and R&D teams of Innovation and Information Technologies Center. We aim at exporting mass production cars and contribute to our country’s economy by ensuring significant revenues. Thus, we will make our country’s name known as a car manufacturer country as well. Within NEU’s innovative perspective, we will continue to work with our devoted teams and spare no sacrifices to keep up with the rapid technological developments across the globe and open new horizons in our country. By utilizing from the latest technological developments, we will be exerting efforts towards generating products of better quality with higher technological features. RA 27 broke its own record in South Africa

The solar powered vehicle of Near East University, RA27 has reached Port Elizabeth city on the fifth day of the competition which it is participating in South Africa; titled as ‘Sasol Solar Challenge’. In fact, RA27 has covered the 1000km of the racecourse that is over 2000km. According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, RA27 has broken its own record by covering 302km instead of 220 km between cities. The Near East University RA27 team has expressed that they had a double joy since they were happy to have completed the 1000km of the race and since they broke their own record. The last three days of the competition… The competition which started from the Capital City of South Africa; Pretoria on 24th September will be ending in Cape Town on Saturday, 1st October, 2016. Furthermore, the competition ‘Sasol Solar Challenge’ involves a route followed on roads that is open to normal traffic flow, a challenge of covering 2000km with a solar powered vehicle!

The orientation days of Near East University is coming to an end with “Welcome to NEU Festival”

Near East University has organised orientation days for the new coming students who have recently registered to study at the NEU during the academic term 2016-2017. Making a statement to the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, NEU Dean of Students, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dudu Özkum Yavuz expressed that in order to warmly welcome all new coming students and their parents to the Near East University, they had organised the traditional orientation days of NEU. Furthermore, she stated that the orientation days were an opportunity for everyone to warmly get to know each other, find out basic information which the students will be needing, and introduce the country; all of which will be helping the students as they initiate their student lives. In addition to the above, as part of the NEU Orientation Days, the students were taken on local cultural tours, which experienced tourist guides and the Student Deanship Members accompanied the students. They were taken to Nicosia and Kyrenia to get to know what facilities are available and be introduced to the local culture. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dudu Özkum Yavuz ended her words by stating that the Orientation Program for the Academic Term 2016-2017 of Near East University will be ending with a final event which is a magnificent festival, titled as “Welcome to NEU!” this Friday, 30th September, 2016.

RA27 is continuing to be the centre of attraction in South Africa

Participating in the competition titled as “Sasol South Africa Solar Challenge”, the solar powered vehicle of Near East University, RA27 has left the third day of the competition behind. According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the solar powered vehicle of Near East University has successfully completed the third day of the competition against all odds; moving from Bloemfontein city in South Africa at 8:00 to Gariep Dam by 17:30, covering 230km despite the bad weather conditions. RA27 has become the centre of attraction… Manufactured by the AR-GE teams of Near East University and consisting of over 100 custom-engineered pieces, RA27 has become the centre of attraction of the spectators of the competition which is held in South Africa. Such that, local and international teams are showing attention to RA27 and particular interest is shown to the vehicle by children; taking photos next to it. Ahmet Çağman: “We are keeping up the pace despite the rain!” Evaluating the current status of RA27 in the competition, Head of Innovation and Information Centre of Near East University, Ahmet Çağman, expressed that although the weather conditions were rather challenging, the solar powered vehicle of NEU was keeping up the pace. Furthermore, he stated that the vehicle had successfully completed the third day of the competition which is to be completed over eight days. He added that RA27 had a growing interest everywhere it went and that this made everybody rather happy. He ended his words by expressing that they were very pleased and honoured to observe that limits had been pushed to manufacture solar powered cars.

Dr. Suat Günsel Cup Basketball Tournament to begin

Organized by the University of Kyrenia, the preseason basketball tournament ‘Dr. Suat Günsel Cup’ begins on September 29, 2016. Contender teams of Turkish Women’s Basketball Super League (TWBSL) will compete in the tournament. Dr. Suat Günsel Cup will take place between 29 September and 1 October, 2016. Contender teams of TWBSL including women’s basketball teams of the University of Kyrenia, Near East University, Hatay BŞB and BOTAŞ will compete with each other during the tournament to win the cup. Dr. Suat Günsel Cup Basketball Tournament, which will be hosted by the Women’s Basketball Team of University of Kyrenia, will be a great opportunity for the participating teams to test and evaluate their performances prior the league. Matches will take place in TRNC and will be broadcasted on BRT…. RA27 gave start in South Africa

RA27, which has been manufactured as a result of 750 hours of hard work of the AR-GE teams of Near East University, has given start at the “Sasol South Africa Solar Challenge”; a competition in South Africa. It was revealed that Turkish Ambassador to Pretoria, Kaan Eser had attended the start of the competition that is to be completed over eight days. According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the competition titled as “Sasol South Africa Solar Challenge” started in Pretoria, capital of South Africa, on 24th September, 2016 and it is to end in Cape Town on 1st October, 2016. Furthermore, it was expressed that the competition was organised by Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) and Motorsport South Africa (MSA) annually and that this year, there were 16 teams participating from Holland, Japan, Hungary, Turkey, Poland and South Africa. Titled as “Sasol South African Solar Challenge” is held yearly and each year, the route to be followed might slightly change. This year, the competition has started from Pretoria and it is to end in Cape Town, on roads that are not closed to normal traffic flow. The competition will come to an end by covering 2500km. RA27 is manufactured with cutting-edge technology; it operates with 1800 DC motors, has 392 custom-engineered solar panels and 426 batteries. RA27 has four wheels and is able to make a maximum speed of 150 km/h and even under conditions where there is no sunlight, it has the capacity to run for 440 km. Near East University Women’s Basketball Team defeated Samsun Canik Municipality Sports Team with a score 82-64 at the preparatory match. According to a press info released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, the match which took place at the Caferağa Sports Hall ended with victory of Near East University Women’s Basketball Team which defeated Samsun Canik Municipality Sports Team with a score of 82-64. The Near East University Women’s Basketball Team gained advantage over its opponent throughout the periods of the match and ended the match 82-64 with a gap of 18 points. The first perid ended with a score of 28-17, the second period ended 43-33 and the last period ended with a score of 82-64.

As one of the strongest candidate of the 2016-2017 basketball season, Near East University has recently added Elin Eldebrink, Swedish athlete, to its women`s basketball team with a signature ceremony. It was expressed that Near East University is addressed as the team which is continuing to make fast transfers causing its women`s basketball team to establish a strong team; that has a wide variety of athletes for rotation. She has completed a successful season both in Turkey and in Euroleague… According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Elin Eldebrink has previously played for the Swedish National team, played in leagues of France and Belgium and last season, she has completed a successful season in Turkey by playing for Orduspor. Elin Eldebrink: “We will take Near East University to the top!” Making a statement, Eldebrink expressed that the women`s basketball team of Near East University was indisputably a rising star. She added that during the last season when she played in Turkey, she had received many positive remarks about the NEU Women`s basketball team, some of which included expressions that they had a managing board that keeps their word and that they had great goals. Therefore, she said that as soon as she received an invitation to join the team, she did not hesitate at all. Eldebrink further stated that the Near East University women`s basketball team was very strong and that she was looking forward to support the team in the best possible way; all together aiming to take the Near East University to the top!
