Training on First Aid was held collaboratively by Near East University Hospital and KTFF

Trainers affiliated with Cyprus Turkish Football Federation (KTFF) participated in a first aid training course that held on May 27 by Near East University Hospital and KTFF. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Ulaş Yavuz from Sports Medicine Department of NEU Hospital implemented the course and provided participants with information on basic first aid applications for common sports injuries. This interactive course provided opportunity for the participants to learn the basic first aid principles required to assess an injured player and ensure the immediate first aid treatment procedures in case of bleeding, joint injuries, fracture, bruise, sprain or strain, concussion and heat stroke. Upon the completion of training, the participants received certificates that officially qualified them as coaches.

Near East University attends International Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Congress and Iranian National Stem Cell Festival

Near East University attended to the International Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Congress and the First Iranian National Stem Cell Festival organized in cooperation with the ICSC2016 scientific and academic institutins, and held in Tehran According to a press statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, Prof. Dr. Nedime Serakıncı, Head of Centre of Excellence and Genetics and Cancer Diagnosis Research Centre which is a department under the Centre of Excellence, and Head of Medical Genetics Department, attended to the conference as an invited sepeaker and session chairman.

A plaque to Near East University at the launching of the ‘Library for All’ project that was realized by the support of Bill Gates Foundation

With the support of Bill Gates Foundation, the launching of ‘Library for All’ project was held in Antalya. The project aims a more active role for local government libraries in social transformation. Hacettepe University, Hacettepe Technology Transfer Center, Turkish Librarians’ Association and Near East University carry out the project that financed by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. According to the press info released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, Chairman of NEU Board of Trustees, and Tümer Garip, Director of NEU Grand Library, were present at the launching of ‘Library for All’ as the partner of the project. The launching program attracted intense interest of participants and media More than 200 participants including representatives of member libraries, municipalities, project stakeholders, media and invitees attended the launching meeting. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: “We feel the happiness of being the partner of such a project” Addressing to the press members after the meeting, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel underlined the importance of the launching meeting in introducing the project to member libraries and media. “We feel the great honor and happiness of being selected as a partner for such a significant project. We provide system support to the project by means of our Innovation Center and Super Computer and we ensure the sustainability of the project. The project will be an important milestone in changing and enhancing the life standard of the society. It’s also exciting for us to be a contributor to such a project that aims the wellbeing of mankind”. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Küçük: “Thanks a lot to the Near East University for contributing to the project” Delivering a speech at the launching ceremony of ‘Library for All’, the project Director Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Küçük touched upon the crucial role of Near East University in conducting the project. “Near East University Innovation Center will ensure the sustainability of the project. The Super Computer of Near East University will continue to provide all backup and system support for three years following the completion of the project in 2018. I would like to take this opportunity and extend our appreciations to NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel and Vice Founding Rector Tümer Garip” said he. Following the speeches, a ‘thank you plaque’ was presented to NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel in recognition of NEU’s contribution to the project.

Premiere of Dr. Dilara takes place at 69th Cannes Film Festival

Produced as one of the film making projects of the Near East University Faculty of Communications Film Production (Film Making Department), Dr. Dilara gets great admiration at the Cannes Film Festival. Tamer Garip, Director of the Communication Affairs, speaking to the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, said “First of all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the crew of the film Dr. Dilara, Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, Founding Rector of Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Near East University, the Near East Family for their invaluable support in realization of the film of Dr. Dilara. Without their support, the film of Dr. Dilara would not be produced. Announcing the name of the Near East University the second time is an invaluable pride for us. The premiere of the film starring Rushan Ankay (Dr. Dilara Bessano), Cengiz Bozkurt, Ercan Saymen, Buse Kırpala and Pembegül Bayram was held at the Palais H cinema hall.

Students of the Near East University School of Physical Education achieve great success at the International Congress

It was revealed that undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Near East University made their mark at an international congress. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, students of the Near East University School of Physical Education (BESYO) participated in the “9th International Student Congress of Participative Sports Sciences” which was hosted by the Istanbul Halic University. Furthermore, it was pointed out that undergraduate students Baris Filiz and Fatih Kerem Ozkan participated the congress and represented the Near East University. Additionally, the students were expressed to have made a poster presentation which they had prepared at the helm of Academic Member of the Near East University School of Physical Education, Prof. Dr. Sahin Ahmedov. During this presentation, the students emphasized that one of the most significant parameters of fitness to be endurance and that there was a need to evaluate whether an athletes’ performance level changed throughout a day. The NEU undergraduate students made their mark at an international congress to which mainly postgraduate students participated in… The committee members stressed that usually postgraduate students participated in scientific organizations alike and that in the aforementioned event, the undergraduate students of Near East University had made their mark with a very successful presentation. They emphasized that this success was exemplary to all other students.

NEC Receives an award for Photography Competition among Secondary Schools

At the helm of the teachers in charge and the assistance of the photography artist Duyal Tüzün, Near East College (NEC) Photography Club students participated in the photography competition jointly organized by Civil Defence Organisation and Ministry of National Education. As a result of the competition which was held among secondary school, Near East College was awarded as the first runner up with Near East College 6th form student Halil Betmezoğlu’s photograph titled as Terzi (tailor). According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, a jury which consisted of 4 highly competent photographers evaluated the pieces submitted to the competition, evaluating nearly 400 photographs. From these, 4 were awarded a prize and 2 which was to be exhibited. It was pointed out that Near East College student Halil Betmezoğlu’s photograph was selected as the first runner up of the competition.

A Seminar titled as “Let’s Learn First Aid” was held at Near East University Hospital

Organised by the Near East University Hospital, and with the presentations of Department of Child Health and Diseases, Prof. Dr. Nerin Nadir Bahçeciler ÖNDER; Premature Specialist Assist. Prof. Dr. Ceyhun DALKAN and Paediatric Intensive Care Specialist, Dr. Hakan TEKGÜÇ; and also conducted within the framework of the Parent and Teacher program, which was developed by the KindyROO Chid Development Academy, the first aid seminar which was given at the Near East University drew a lot of interest. According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the parents and teachers from KindyROO, participated a seminar titled as “Let’s Learn First Aid”. The participants of the seminar were said to have been provided information on protecting children from accidents, possible precautions to be taken, and conditions when First Aid should be applied. It was expressed that issues such as prevention of injuries to worsen through the application of first aid and how timing was rather serious in these cases were emphasised. Participants were advised not to panic in these circumstances and to try to stabilise the breathing and the consciousness of the patient was important. The participants were also provided information on performing simple procedures and following certain guidelines, since these could lead to save lives until professional medical help is administered.
