Near East College Science Feast received great interest

The Feast of Science, which is held traditionally by Near East College, received great interest this year as well. NEC Feast of Science, which provided platform for students studying at the Department of Science of ÖSS and GCE classes of Near East College (NEC) to unveil a scientific feast that presenting virtual materials that they produced during applied science courses, was held at Near East College Indoor Sports Hall with the support of teachers and students of Geography Club, Observation and Research Club, Department of Mathematics, Department of French, and Education of Religion Culture and Ethics. According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, the opening of Feast of Science was actualized by Dr. Özdemir Berova, Minister of National Education and Culture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel, Chairman of NEU Board of Trustees, Erdoğan Şensoy, Coordinator of NEU Administrative Services and Education, and Işılay Arkan, Director of Near East College. The event was a fun feast for students with a curious soul and provided opportunity for them to offer a visual feast through scientific experiments and materials that they created during applied science courses. The Feast of Science, which created a scientific vibrancy and attracted great interest of academics, students and parents, will be remembered as one of the best events that realized by NEC to keep close and personal with the fascinating world of science. Dr. Özdemir Berova: “I am very impressed with the scientific experiments that performed successfully by the students of Near East College; I congratulate NEC administration and teachers wholeheartedly”. Dr. Özdemir Berova, Minster of National Education and Culture, received information regarding the experiments by visiting almost forty stands one by one that opened by students. Dr. Berova stated that the event was a visual feast of science and he was very impressed. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel: The Feast of Science has a crucial role on providing students with opportunities to develop their scientific abilities and perspectives Touching upon their commitment to realize the Feast of Science annually on a traditional basis, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel underlined the crucial role of the event for students in terms of gaining and developing positive attitudes towards science, project design, research and innovation. “Today, here, with games and contests, our students have presented us their scientific studies and experiments that they conducted in their applied courses all round the year. With a curious soul and intense interest in science and technology, our students presented a visual fun feast that impressed the attending body. Our era realizes rapid changes and vigorous developments in science and technology. Being the linchpin of excellence in education, Near East University always attaches great importance on science, scientific research, technology, and tech-invention and innovation activities. To this end, we spare no sacrifices to encourage and support projects and scientific studies. In order to create an environment beneficial to science and innovation, the Feast of Science is held annually and it covers the whole process of scientific studies and experiments that conducted by NEC students throughout the year. Education is a must for a barrier free life, society and tourism

Education for All, Barrier Free Tourism and Life Workshop has started at Near East University Organized cooperatively by Near East Institute, NEU Tourism Research Center and NEU Societal Research and Development Center, which are affiliated with Near East University Center of Excellence, ‘Education for All, Barrier-Free Tourism and Life Workshop’ has started at NEU Hospital Hall 101. Meral Akıncı, spouse of TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı, Fikri Ataoğlu, Minister of Tourism and Environment, Hamza Ersan Saner, Minister of Labor and Social Security, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel, Chairman of NEU Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, NEU Vice Rector, Ilker Edip, Mayor of Beyarmudu, Hasan Sadıkoğlu, Mayor of Iskele, officials from state organizations and institutions located in TRNC and Turkey, local officials, representatives from NGOs and universities, students and citizens attended the opening ceremony of the workshop. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümran Dal Yılmaz, Vice Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences of Near East University represented the Near East University at the 20th National Surgical/15th Surgical Nursing Congress as the speaker and chairman of the session of the congress. Nida Aydın, research assistant from the Department of Nursing of Faculty of Faculty of Health Sciences, also took place at the congress as a participant.

Near East University represented at Lions 7th International Short Film Competition Lions

Near East University once more represented at the Lions International Short Film Competition where in recent years Ömer Evre had won the “Best Cinematography Director” and Gokalp Yamen the “Best Director” awards. According to a press statment released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, Gökalp Yamen, graduate of NEU Radio and Cinema Department, has managed to become a finalist in the competition with the film called “They Shot Me Out of Dardanalles” which was made a graduation project. The film, supported by the Communication Research Centre under Center of Excellence, tells the tragic story of hundreds of Turkish troops taken as prisoners and were brought to Cyprus during the Dardanelles War. The film was dedicated to fallen soldiers of Dardanelles War. Gökalp Yamen won the “Best Director Award” at the Lions POSTAL-74 short film competion.

Near East University 1st Children’s Festival held with high participation

Near East University “Children’s Festival” of which the first was held this year by the Directorate of Human Resources Directorate was carried out with intense interest of children. In addition to fun games for kids the Near East University Dance School offered a spectacular dance performance for children who lived an unforgettable day. Games about to be forgetten were reminded to children… Througout the three-hour event, the children stayed away from computer games and played the traditional games such as robe pulling, carrying eggs in spoons and so on. According to a press statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University the Children’s Festival organized by the Directorate of Human Resources of NEU will turn into a traditional event and continue in the coming years.

Attention to stuents who will take the Graduate Proficiency Exam administered by English Preparatory School

The Graduate Proficiency Exam of our university which will be administered by the English Preparatory School will be take place on 5 May 2016, Thursday, at 10:00 at the complex of English Preparatory School of Atatürk Faculty of Education. Students who wish to take the exam must apply to the Secretary’s Office of English Preparatory School by the end of working hours on Wednesday, 4 May 2016. Students who wish to take the exam must submit a registration document obtained from Registrar’s Office. Students who do not register for the exam till deadline, cannot take the exam.

Celebrating the Year of Shakespeare

Departments of English Language and Literature, English Language Teaching and Translation and Interpretation invite you to celebrate the year of Shakespeare with a themed event: “Shakespeare in Films.” Movie screenings featuring Shakespeare’s work will take place throughout the first week of May in R9 (Faculty of Arts and Sciences, second floor). The schedule for the screenings is as follows: Date Time Film Tuesday April 26th 14:00 Shakespeare in Love Wednesday April 27th 14:00 Romeo and Juliet Thursday April 28th 14:00 Shakespeare in Love Friday April 29th 14:00 Romeo and Juliet These will be followed by a closing discussion of Shakespeare’s work in general and its representation in the selected movies in particular. The closing event will take place in AKM Hall 1 on 3rd May 2016 from 14:00 to 16:00.

NEU Fine Arts at Sarajevo

The exibition of PROJECTION-S organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Near East University was opened at Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Mirvad Kuric, Minister of Culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina,Soner Şahin, Sarajevo Cultural Attaché of Turkey, Marina Finci, Dean of Sarajevo Fine Arts Academy, Vice Dean Nusret Pasic, Enver Hadziomerspahic, Director of Sarajevo Museum of Contemporary Art, and Edin Numankadic, Director of Olimpijski Muzej, and several officers, directors, artists and art lovers attended to opening ceremony. Prof. Dr. Uğurcan Akyüz, Mustafa Hastürk and Hasan Zeybek attended to opening ceremony in representation of participant artists. According to a press statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, the PROJECTION-S exhibition opened at Galerija Preporod in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina, is the third of the exhibitions planned to be opened at five capitals (Ankara-Turkey, Baku-Azerbaijan, Sarajevo-Bosnia-Herzegovina, Tallin-Estonia, Nicosia-TRNC) within the scope of FIVE CAPITAL FIVE EXHIBITION PROJECT prepared by the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Near East University for 2015-2016 academic year.

What is role of Cyprus in Regional Security Bargains Security of Black Sea and Middle East will be scrutinized at Near East University

Prof. Dr. Mitat Çelikpala and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Köprülü will review the international, regional and local security dynamics of Black Sea and Middle East at the Security Academy of Near East Institute. Prof. Dr. Mitat Çelikpala, subject specialist on international relations and security policies of Caucasia and Central Asia, will scrutinize the security level of relations between TRNC-Caucasia and Turkic Republics, and unknown aspects of Black Sea and Mediterranean energy safety issues, with other participants. Besides, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Köprülü, Vice Director of Near East Institute, will review the security aspects of relations between TRNC and Middle East countries. According to a press statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate, the certificate program which was commenced on 5th March and based on security issues and applications, will continue with participation of various titles, presentations and participants until 21 May 2016.

Near East University Faculty of Engineering Career Days held in cooperation with EU Information Center

The Firts Career Days Event was held in cooperation of Faculty of Engineering of Near East University, Deanship of Student Career Planning Center and the EU Information Center between 14 and April 15, 2016. According to a press statement issued by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, participation and interest of students to the event, which was contributed and presentations were made by KKTCELL, Serhan Kombos Automotive Ltd., Recaioğlu Ltd., Forman International Ltd., and COOP-MILK was very high. EU Information Center, answering questions of students and making presentations about reaching to job and internship opportunities, put an enormous contribution to the career days.
